Default Headlight wiring question????

I'm installing my new headlight and the stocker has three wires(one being a black ground wire) that go into the main plug behind the bulb. The new light only has two, no black ground wire.

Is the ground wire necessary or not?

Also, you guys that have installed a new light......where did you tuck all the extra wiring that was inside the stocker light housing. Holy moly there was a ton of wiring b.s. stashed up in there.

The light I bought had an H4 bulb so I used the factory connector. I took the plug apart then snaked the wires through the hole then reassembled it inside the housing. All the excess wires and plugs tie wrapped and tucked up behind the ignition cover.

Well the light I have just has two wire coming from the back of the housing. The wires going into the plug to the stocker (3 of them) are green, yellow and black. I connected the yellow and green to the yellow and red from the new light and nothing. I tested the light on the battery and it works. hmmmm I guess I need to use the black wire + one of the 2 others......????

Some lights out there are low beam only. My light had 2 wires also but had a 3 prong H4. If light you bought has a 2 prong bulb check to see if your stock bulb will fit in its place.

It says H4 on it. I don't see any way to take this light apart so I want to just wire it it. No combination of the 3 wires seems to work. Not sure what to do now.

There is an 'extra' plug that was tucked into all that wiring mess that doesn't seem to have a home.....it wasn't connected to anything. Any idea what it is for??

Here's a pic of the install. I'm not sure why it's not getting power. I tested the light on the battery and it works. The three wires are from the H4 clip I cut off. The two wires coming off the light are all I have to work with.

I have no idea how to open up this light, but it says H4 on the lens. It does not have any screws like the stocker light.

If it says H4 it should have 3 prongs and your stock connector should plug right in. The back of the factory connector is like a lid and there are 3 small tabs the it snaps into, once you get the back lid open you can remove the metal connectors by pushing the plastic tabs that are in the center of them.

If the light has a trim ring use a rubber jar lid remover to spin it free, use a lot of pressure as it is a pain, then there will be an inner retention ring that will spin off.

Here is how to snake the factory wires once the connector is apart.
Some lights holes my be to small to snake the L shaped connectors, remove the swivel base then remove the main part of the mount from the housing. Ream an oval shaped hole in the mount base then a matching one in the light housing. Snake the wires through the mount first then through the housing after every thing is run bolt the base back onto the housing then reattach the swivel base.

Just noticed your pic when I went to post this. It looks like your light is has 3 wires but is grounded inside the housing so I would guess going yellow to yellow and green to red, then ground the black wire to the mount.
