The axle is in backwards on this bike. First remove the axle nut on the right side of the bike, which is tucked in behind the exhaust. You will then need to remove the axle completely.

I just though of a workaround to this...

1. remove axle nut
2. slide axle out PART way
3. Take a measurement on the thickness of the axle bolt.
4. Cut a notch in the plate bracket around the hole so it can slip over top without removing the axle completely.

Thankyou very much. I just found out the vertical mount is illegal in FL any way so i have to get a horizontal one. I thought it was just the bolt off then on . lol

Who told you that lie? Vertical is LEGAL in Florida. As long as you carry a sunpass on the bike. This text was added to the statute because the toll cameras cannot read plates vertically, but that doesn't matter if you carry a sunpass responder:

2010 Florida Code
TITLE XXIII MOTOR VEHICLES
Chapter 316 STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
316.2085 Riding on motorcycles or mopeds:

(3) The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used. The license tag of a motorcycle or moped may be affixed horizontally to the ground so that the numbers and letters read from left to right. [b]Alternatively, a license tag for a motorcycle or moped for which the numbers and letters read from top to bottom may be affixed perpendicularly to the ground, provided that the registered owner of the motorcycle or moped maintains a prepaid toll account in good standing and a transponder associated with the prepaid toll account is affixed to the motorcycle or moped.

I just had my side mount plate installed last night. Like Natdog said you have to remove the entire axle. I had the dealer do it for me, because I didn't want to screw up anything. Good thing too. The axle on mine was very difficult to remove for some reason and they had to remove the slip on section of the exhaust so the could hammer the axle out. It looks great now. Was worth it. Tomorrow I'm getting all that crap cut out under the brake light.

Found out that the factory exhaust on the stryker is basically one big catalytic converter at the slip on section and is not a true two into one into two.

I would be carefull of notching the bracket, if it did come loose and fall off you'd have a bit of play in the rear wheel. Also if you get an axle mount make sure you have thread ingagement with the nylock portion of the nut! Loosen the nut on the right side of the bike, not the left side, and if you have to hammer out the axle use something softer like alluminum so you don't bugger the threads. The bike needs to be supported while you do this make sure it's stable. Just sayin.
