I would definitely do it myself before shelling out that kind of $$. The local dealer said most guys have them do everything at 16k except for repacking the steering head and swing-arm bearings because it’s just so labor intensive which equates to big $$. I'm gonna check with several shops to compare prices. I'm only at 12k now so I have time to figure things out.///Matt said:Get a service manual and do it yourself. Not hard stuff, if you're at all mechanically inclined.
hmmm I don't recall my dealer offering me anything like that...sounds like it's a smoking deal for those who ride quite a bit.Sam said:wow! good thing i paid $700 for the service agreement, which covers all regular scheduled maintenance unlimited for 3 years... oh and they threw in a set of free tires.
Repacking the steering head and swingarm bearings is really not hard at all. It requires (in most cases) a couple of special tools, and you need to be careful to set the torque correctly on re-assembly, but it's really easy work.skwerlee said:I would definitely do it myself before shelling out that kind of $$. I agree...i think the service manual is just calling for some CYA if ya know what i meanSFCMcGan said:I can honestly say that I have had several bikes that I have put 20-30,000 miles on and have never repacked the steering or swingarm bearings... never once had an issue... personally.. never seen an issue on any of my buddies bikes either.
