So I am getting ready to do my 600 mile oil change and just want to get opinions if it is better to go with Yamalube 10w40 or if it is ok to go to another brand. Looking for any recommendations also. I know it is too early to go synthetic.

Thanks

the first couple oil changes I did was with the Yamalube 10W-40. Then when I had my 5k inspection I let them change the oil. They put 20W-50 in it. Ever since the oil light comes on until the oil warms up. Seem my bike prefers 10w-40.

Coming up on 600 miles myself and will doing the oil change, going to use the Yamaha stuff til my 8k service and switch to synthetic i think. Still having trouble finding anything on how much oil to use, the tech said a little over 4 qt. But my manual says 3.59 qt with a filter change, and found on here people using 3.91 qt which is what a v star 1300 requires.

Putting mine off til next week and closer to 800 miles though.

I've been using 20 50 Mobile 1 until my last oil change. I changed the oil in my bike and my wife's bike prior to our 2,700 mile ride. I used Yamalube 20 50. When I started the bikes the was a instant noticeable difference in sound and smoothness of the engines of both bikes compared to any other oil changes before I switched to Yamalube. The change was so distinct that I will now use nothing but Yamalube. It's also less exspencive. The 20 50 does make the clutch on my bike chirp a little until it warms up all the way. The oil light came on once or twice way back when I had less than 2,000 miles on it but has not since even in temps near freezing with the 20 50. We do not do short rides when ever we leave the house the least amount of distance we travel is 60 miles up and steep mountains in day time temps in the 80s and 90s in places and return at nigh in temps in the 40s, and most of the time it's a 260 mile round trip is why I use the 20 50.

For the first service I used a conventional 10W-40 oil; I used Repsol as that's what they had at the dealership when I bought my filter. I changed my oil again at 1100 miles and went to Motul 5100 semi-synthetic 10W-40. I coming up on another oil change soon and will be going with Motul 5100 semi-synthetic again but may go to a 15W-50 as its very hot in Florida.

My next oil change will be with Yamalube semi-synthetic 10W-50. According to the manual, the 20W-50 is only good on the low temp end to 50F, which in a couple of months, it will start being early in the morning. The 10W-50 temperature range is 10F - 110+ F. What's odd (to me) is that the owner's manual lists the 10W-50 as a recommended weight while this site: Yamalube does not list it as approved. Since the specs are otherwise the same, I have to believe it's okay (I will check with the dealership, but since they were going to use it last time...)
