Hey all - Hope your riding weather is good, it's starting to get real nice here in NC.

Starting yesterday, I'm having difficulty shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and from 3rd-4th. What happens is the shifter just hits a dead spot (where it usually grabs a gear).

If I let off the clutch (still in the same gear) and try again, it goes, but I have to really use a bit of force to get it. Same thing happens when going into higher gears.

The bike is fairly new to me, and I had it serviced upon arrival - oil change, health inspection, tires, etc. It's a 2011 with 15k miles on it. I've put about 400 miles on it and this just started yesterday.

Before I start tearing things up, I thought I'd start on this forum to see if this is a prevalent issue or not. I'm no mechanic, but I can follow instructions and use tools.

Any useful insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

A couple of things to check quickly. The oil level and clutch adjustment. These bike seem especially picky on the adjustment of the clutch cable. That's the first thing I'd look at/ Also if it is a bit low on oil sticky shifting can result. I'd also double check the linkage from the shift lever to the tranny. Let us know what you find. Good luck, hope it works out.

Thanks for the quick response! I'll check the items you mentioned early this afternoon and report back. Thanks.

I would have to agree on the clutch cable and low oil. My last bike an R6 had the same issue and it turned out to be a combo of the two. Seems it may be a yamaha thing to me.
