Hi all, I'm just about to buy my first Stryker and I was wondering if someone could tell me which of the stickers are above the clear coat and which one's are not.

I've searched the site and found several topics on how to remove them, but nothing on exactly which of the stickers are above the clear coat and which one's are not. I'd like to have an idea of which one's I can easily remove.

Can anyone help on this?

I apologize if I missed the correct thread. If I have, could someone lead me in the correct direction?

I believe on all years of the Stryker all of the badges / graphics are removable stickers - except for the ones on the sides of the tank. Those are under the clearcoat.

That tank warning sticker was a MF'r to get off. Take your time there to avoid scratching the paint etc.
The others were easy.
I think Yamaha wised up that we removed all the stickers and for 2013 moved the "Star" name to a tank graphic...

Besides color, it's one of the reasons I bought a 2012 leftover. If I bought a 13, I would have taken the tank off in the off season and had it repainted without the logos. I really like an unbranded tank. I can live with the lines on the 12, but I'd rather they be gone too. I think most factory graphics cheapen the look of the bike.

Just my two cents and only my two cents. We all have our individual tastes and that's a good thing. :)

That's exactly why I went with the 2012 as well. That bare tank with metallic black is gorgeous.

Yep yep, met too. Heat gunned my stickers and started to peel one corner with a plastic scraper and pulled them off one shot. Then used a cloth wet not soaked with gas to get rid of the residue. When that was done I polished waxed and then detailed the bike. Man did it shine after.

I believe underneat the tank decals is clearcoated already; therefore, if you just slightly cut into the sticker clearcoat on several areas, then spray those areas with wd40 and heat it up with a hair dryer, then the decal should be able to be peeled off.

So the STAR stickers that were on the side plates were not clear coated? I thought the tank graphics would be the same thing. It seems that some members have removed their tank graphics without problem. And I am talking reds or coppers. I just can't think of whose bike I have seen like this. I am thinking of removing my tank graphics for some custom scallops. But when I do that the whole thing will be cleared anyway.

i don't remember what model years/colors are like this but i know that my 2013 pearl white had the clear coat over the stickers on the tank sides and no where else. The Yamaha logo on rear fender and the caution sticker on the tank by gas cap all came off with just some Wd40 and patience. i have heard of and seen a video where someone does what was described earlier which is to cut around the decals with and xacto knife and keeping a hair dryer or heat gun on low and just peel it off. the particular bike they were working on had another layer of clear under the decals and after the decals were off they just buffed out the dull areas that left some glue residue and it looked great. I would love to get rid of those graphics but i don't have the guts to try this unless i have the fund ready to get a new paint job if/when i fudge it up.

Trying this again for BrettRTR, http://www.lowandmean.com/index.php...tegory_id=105&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=60

BrettRTR,

If it doesn't work for you again, do a Goggle Searh for "Low And Mean" search products under the specific "Yamaha Star" and the the Stryker. or search Sticker Removal Tool Part # LM330772750225 $17.95 there is an Instructional video as well. They show removing sticker on a tank. but I don't know how well it would be on side covers due to being plastic. I'm in the process of ordering it as well but i hope to here more about people trying it on a side cover. I have bought other producuts from them and all seem of very good quality. Chin Scoopr Radiator cover and the Upper Fork Tube black out covers fork end covers and the Gator Covers for the lower forks.

I have not got a chance to check out the video. Is it removing a tank sticker that has been clear coated? That is the main issue with the tank decal is that it is underneath the clear coat. The sticker on the side plate is very easy to remove. I just put a little olive oil on it and let it soak for a few minutes. Then just peeled it off from the corner. Came off cleanly and left very little residue which was easy to clean. I am curious about this tool if it is good for removing the sticker under clear coat. I am also curious if Yamaha cleared the tank prior to placing the decal and then just put additional clear on top to protect the sticker. Anyone who has removed the sticker from a cleared bike want to chime in?
