I went to my Dlr today as the Victory M/C demo fleet was there for Demos. I picked a factory bike w/250 rear tire. The Victory people cautioned me that it wouldn't want to turn normally that I would need to go old school & really push down on handle bars to go in a turn,not just lean. I assure them it wouldn't be a problem as my bike had a 210 rear. BOY was I Wrong! This thing didn't want to turn @ all esp..Left handers. The entire demo ride was miserable as the bike fought me @ every turn, not wanting to turn but stay upright or go back upright all thru the turn, MISERABLE DEMO. Even after getting back on my bike for 15 minutes I was man handling my bike @ every turn due to the experience. I remember reading in the Magazines when the Suzuki M109R came out the test rider/editors complained it didn't want to turn just stay upright ( it had a 240 rear) I dismissed the articles as sport bike riders used to Crotch rockets, not Cruisers. My bike will soon need a new rear tire & I was planning on installing a 240 rear, now I am rethinking this. I am happy w/the way my bike handles & have no issue w/turns,sweepers @ any speed,nor do I ever think about the rear tire width. I don't want to get a 240 rear & regret that decision & ruin the riding experience. I don't just cruise 20-30 miles a weekend on the freeway & don't want to sacrifice HANDLING FOR LOOKING BAD ASS so the Question is: Those of you that have gone to a 240 DO YOU HAVE TO FIGHT THE BIKE IN TURNS? & would you go larger if it were not for the look or already doing it? This bike already takes your input to make it turn compared to bikes that run smaller front tires and like 180 rear tires. Going from the 210 to a 240 doesn't change it much in fact I feel it handles better. As for it wanting to stand up in turns it's the opposite . It stays right where you put it and you have to ask it to come up out of the turn. It's also more stable in straight a ways in my experience.

Because the stock rim is built for a 210, when we squeeze the 240/250 on it- we now have a larger center circumference and more arc to the tire as a whole. Also the 240 tires dont have the ridge shoulder that the 210 has. all in all better handling with the 240 or 250.

Don't worry. If your putting the 240 on the original rim, then its not a true 240 and it won't give you the flat spot that you experience on a true 240 or 250.

First ride on mine after putting on my 250 was to an "advanced" MSF course. Was able to easily do all the maneuvering, even the figure eight just fine. Keep in mind, it is on the stock rim so the point mentioned above is still valid. But I didn't notice a significant enough change in handling to take anything away from how much better the 250 looks over the 210.
I love mine (Avon 240)
Barely fits but it has no issues so far, bike feels more solid and everyone notices that fat *****! Sure you take wider turns, but it feels so much more solid/flat... Hard to explain, but it felt amazing immediately.
I noticed I needed more throttle/revs to keep it from lugging on the starts... But my pipes and other toys addressed that

I had the same problem with the yamaha dealer, wouldn't put it on stock rim. Wanted me to buy 8 inch rim. Went to a local mom & pop bike shop & got it done there:thumb:

yeah dealers won't do it cuz they're some cowards. i had a shop i was going to go to. i'd talked to them, they said yea no prob - this was last year. i called them a couple days ago and she's like ah yea we've changed our policy... if you want us to mount it you have to buy it from us. so they're gonna juice me up $50 on the tire which i found online for like $230, then plus install fee.

i think the 250 is in my top 3 mods since i bought the bike, looks better, rides and turns better, what you may want to consider is lowering the bike though, it will raise it up some

DO IT. You will not regret it. I went to a 240 and love the look. I have not experienced any change in maneuverability.

That seems to be the new trend with some dealers because they're idiots - one of the shops near me advertises buy your tires from us and get free mount and balance - so I called to see how much the tire was $60 higher than online - after they told me I started laughing and hung up.
