Hey Guys,

It looks like I will be picking up my new bike next Thursday. I was thinking of driving it from the dealer to home. This is about a 300 mile trip all highway.

I am unsure if I should trailer it home and do some short trips later to break it in. Or is driving it off the floor that distance all highway a good idea.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you would not hurt the engine to make that initial trip, but would be more fun on some back roads. Although 300 miles is quite a first trip. I guess if it was me I would trailer it home and then work myself into the bike at a smaller pace.

It should be fine . The only things I was warned about from dealer . Was holding the throttle in one position too long and let the engine rest every 50-75 miles . I made a 120 mile home trip but instead of taking interstate I ended up taking a lot of side roads . It was a amazing first ride .

I road mine home from the dealer, roughly 220 miles, mainly on 2 lane highways. Never went above 100 mph... :D First time I had been on a bike in 20 years. Loved every minute of it. Still do.

My wife at the time, ex wife now. made me sell my old bike and i bought the stryker after i got done beating her ass in court haha. was so excited to go ride again. I almost thanked her for making me sell my honda vtx because i would have never bought a stryker if i hadnt lol.

You need to avoid constant engine speeds. Try to avoid the highway if you can as it's harder to switch things up on the freeway. You also want to try to work the gearbox a lot during break in. The highway is not conducive to that either.

If the highway is the only choice, vary your speed a lot and switch back and forth between fourth and fifth. Then try to exercise your gearbox more the next 300 miles after you get home.

Ride it.. take the back road hiways... that way you have to slow down through every little town / cross roads... that will make sure your varying your ride speeds and going thru the gears.
