Hey Guys!

So, I want to change the tank on my 11' Stryker - mainly b/c I want a bigger tank, but also for styling purposes.

I've done a lot of digging around and I can't seem to find any aftermarket tanks, anywhere.

So, I look to you all for HELP!

  • [li]Are there any aftermarket tanks? [/li]
    [li]Can I grab a tank from a different Star 1300? 600? 1100?[/li]
[li]Any other tips / suggestions would be immensely appreciated![/li]

Thanks all, looking forward to the chat!

I've got a small dent in mine and would rather upgrade than repair.

The Raider's tank holds 4.2 gal compared to the Stryker's 4.0 gal. The V Star 1300 holds 4.9 so it would be a nice upgrade. Compatibility I know nothing about, so I'm curious about what you uncover.

Raider fuel capacity is 4.2 but 8 tenth's of a gallon are in the reserve tank

The 1300 may fit the stryker..... they have many interchangeable aftermarket parts. Or if you have a metal fab shop/ bike repair shop near you, maybe take it in and let one of the guys design a tank for what you want. Just an idea. :). good luck!!!

My suggestion would be get a custom mad one. IMO neither the Raider or the 1300 tank would be worth the money for just a few tenths of a gallon more. And the 1300 just wouldn't look right. You could probobly get a custom made one that gave you 1 and 1/2 to 2 gallons more for what it would cost for a new one.

@Toby / @Wyntress - thanks for the notes guys!

I'd love to have one custom made, but that can get SPENDY.

My current tank has a dent from a car door as well, so that's leading this charge a bit too.

Any other ideas / suggestions out there?

I had a guy quote me 400 to take the tank I have and split it down the middle and add about 3" width to it, that didn't include paint so I put that idea on the back burner as he told me it would only increase the tank size by about a 1/2 gallon, another guy quotes me 650 for a full on custom tank adding about 1.25 gallons to the size, again, didn't include paint

Woof - adding 1.5 gallons is certainly tempting... depending on the shape / look!

If someone can donate a damaged tank I can design a larger tank around it and fabricate a few out of fiberglass or carbon fiber. I have a few design elements in mind that will increase capacity. My only concern is finding the proper resin necessary to withstand ethanol

_____

addendum: I've been doing some early morning research into making upgraded tanks out of laminate.

Besides poly sulfide coatings that are used in the aviation industry to coat the insides of the tank and even blow molding an HDPE bladder inside the tank, it appears vinyl ester resins are resistant to ethyl alcohols to be the simplest solution. I'm contacting the vendor for verification. Here is a chemical resistance table for VE

@Primeral - I'd be willing to donate my dented tank if I can get a tank in return :)

I'm a designer / engineer by trade, love the idea of a fiberglass/CF tank - we could design some really bad ass tank designs with that material. Hit me up with a DM if you're interested.

Sounds like a deal if you cover your share of raw materials ... for myself I was thinking about the hex pattern carbon weave from Fibreglast. I'm currently working in Pro/E / Creo so if you can come up with a 3D model that would be even better for visuals. Maybe I can get it rapid prototyped at work ;)

I'll PM you my personal contact, that dent is quickly becoming a nuisance.

I'm so glad others are thinking of this. I will be working on a mold of my tank over the winter, as I have a bunch of carbon fiber left over.
I am excited to see what you come up with!

@WLFPAK65 & @Primeral - this is exciting - I'd love to keep my tank on if you have an extra @WLFPAK65! Would be really epic to do a set of both fenders and tank. But certainly the tank at least. I have some design ideas in mind to add some paint over the carbon fiber to give it even more depth / style.

@WLFPAK65 - PM me and I'll add you to the email chain I have going with @Primeral!

This has been discussed a bunch over the years and besides paying a buttload of $$$ to a tank builder there is nothing to replace the Stryker tank with unless you want a very small additional amount of fuel (1300) with a tank that looks hideous on the stryker.
To my knowledge no-one has done it.
Good luck to ya though.
Having one custom made to keep some of the great lines this bike has would be extremely spendy.
You'd have to go 4" to 5" wider, 2 to 3" taller (higher bars) and a couple inches lower on the side to gain anything.
I'm guessing around $1800 with paint if not closer to $2200.

If you can weld and work metal then HERE would be a good place to start but none of these would be a direct fit.
You'd be building everything to mount it on the stryker.

A stock tank is @ $800 to over $1000...
