Curious if anyone has made any additional cooling mods? I know there are some additives out there that claim to help with heat dissipation. Curious if anyone has tried any or have made any actual modifications to the cooling system. It's extremely hot around here, I'd like to help keep this thing cool.

I'm always leery of additives. So many things can go wrong and then you'd be on your own. Yamaha knows how to engineer the bike so you should be fine.
You could always pipe in an oil cooler if you never run in the really cold temps(could actualy backfire in those) and if you don't mind the added bulk. Same would go for replacing the original radiator w/ a larger(possibly custom) one. Before worrying about any of this I'd see if there were a way to take the bike's temperature when you think it is running really hot and see what the number actually is.

No doubt the heat will take a toll on the bike just like all vehicles but unlike a car the changes to a bike are more cumbersome to hide.

I was just curious. I haven't had any signs of overheating.
The only cooling system improvements I'd consider are to do with the coolant itself. I was extremely pleased with Engine Ice in the past. I had a 2000 Yamaha YZ426f dirt bike that ran hot by nature. If I stopped on a trail and let it idle more than 30 seconds it would start boiling over. Simply switching to Engine Ice completely solved the issue. Also, using Water Wetter is really good too.

That's the two I've heard of. I've tried neither. I've always run aftermarket radiators and low fan temps to solve the issue. Don't really have that option here for the most part so was thinking about additives. May do a little research on them.

Seems like the fan is always on when I kill it.
during the summer the fan will probably be on almost always when you shut off because most of the time you are in a parking lot or moving somewhere slow with low airflow.. you can let the bike idle for a bit to keep the fan and water pump on to allow it to cool before shutting it down... I have always just let it idle while I take my gear off then shut it down

A real simple mod many of us did to our sportbikes was to run a bypass switch to the radiator fan which allowed us to manually turn the fan on if we wanted to. Helps keep the coolant cooler and thus lowers the engine temp some. It's easy and only requires some inexpensive parts. Combine that with engine ice coolant and you're g2g

I'm wondering where you are that's so dang hot? Vegas? I've been cruisin' the mojave desert in crazy temps for years now with no issues at all. Only time it ever overheated was when I took the coolant hoses off for a valve adjustment and didn't get all the air back out of the system. And even then, it didn't happen until a hot day when it was sitting in my driveway running after a ride (I was getting something out of the garage).

Methinks you're trying to solve a problem that will never exist.

I help out my friend he races an 850 hp Big Block modified on dirt and we have used water wetter when it is the middle of summer on a hot dry dusty track. If it works on a big block with that much hp's you know its going to work on our bikes.
