For those of you that have aftermarket air cleaners, do they make a high pitched whistle at any rpm? I have a hypercharger installed and it makes a high pitched whistle that drives me nuts. When I am able to start riding it regularly I will probably have to replace it for that reason. I ask because I hate to spend more money on something else only to have it make noise as well.

I'm also running the adapter that PCS sells, so I'm not exactly sure if its the hypercharger, the adapter, or a combination of both.

This is going to happen no matter what intake you use. It is from the increased volume of air going into the intake and the lack of the monster housing (stock) that goes around it. This happens when you mod cars and trucks as well with cold air intakes.

Thanks for the replies. As for leaks, nope, its sealed up good. I was hoping that something with a larger filter might be quieter, but I guess not. Next time I start the bike up I think I'll take the cover off of the hypercharger to see if the whistle is still there when the filter is bypassed. At least that way I can tell for sure if the hypercharger is the culprit. I don't mind the sound of extra air, but that whistle... :'(

Whistling usually comes from air going over a hole or tight area. Could be from the butterflies where the air comes into the hypercharger. hold them wide open by hand and see if that changes anything.
I have and it had no effect. I'm wondering if it isn't caused by the adapter I used instead. Taking the side off should tell me I think. Its only there at idle and cruising speed. Its gone when rolling on the throttle.

I have the same problem with the PCS adapter with the L&M 360 degree Spike. The whiste is very loud and annoying. I have not had a chance to take it out on the road yet, but I am hoping that it goes away then. Otherwise, I am not sure what I am going to do. :-\

I think you just confirmed my suspicions. I have the same adapter. Mine doesn't go away on the road, and it only eases up when I'm in the throttle pretty good. If it turns out to be the culprit I guess I will replace mine with something else. The pitch and volume is a bit more than I can stand.

Bad leak someplace. Spray around the area with propane and might be able to find it. If engine speeds up........you found area of leak.
I removed the hypercharger and fired the bike up. The whistle is coming from the adapter itself. I feared as much. Ah well, time to hunt for something else I guess.

I have this air cleaner from S&S custom cycles. Great price, old school look and flows a lot of air. I've had it on the bike since August. I'll try to take a pic tonight of it on the bike.
I've been looking at that one and the plain round chrome one all day. No adapters required? Is it noisy?

The adapter is part of the kit and it's just a plate that mounts with the existing hardware and then the filter and cover go over that. Sleek and classic! I think it's almost the same as the stock set up for noise. S&S specializes in custom metric bikes and are easy to work with. You won't regret it!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to order my powrpro from them anyways so I can always grab a breather at the same time. I love the look of my hypercharger, but its hard to look cool riding around town when your bike sounds like its squealing. ;D

I'd still like to see a pic of it on your bike if you get the time.

I have the hypercharger on mine with the thunder adapter.....no whistle noise at all. Man, that sucks because I love the look of mine.

Just a though...did you double check the vaccum lines connections and for holes/cracks? I've never heard one of these in person, but by the way you describe it, it doesn't sound normal. Sounds like air is flowing somewhere it shouldn't.

It makes the same noise when the only thing still installed is the adapter, so I cant see it being a leak. I think it has to do with the way the adapter itself is made. I'm wondering about porting/polishing it to see if smoothing off some of the edges will quiet it down some. Next time I get a chance to take some pictures of the bike I might try to record a short video to capture the noise as well. I might add that I'm pleased with the adapter, I just don't care for the high pitch its making atm.
