The 600 mile change is coming...It rarely gets above 100 degrees in the San Francisco/Monterey area...I'm thinking of using Amsoil 10 40 weight because it gets pumped into moving parts FASTER than the 20 50 when you FIRST start the motor...any thoughts???? PEACE RIDE SAFE

That will work as long as you don't set for long periods in traffic at 100 degrees.

Thanks for the advice...10 40 Amsoil it is....There are a few days in the summer it'll creep into the triple digits inland from the coast...When that happens I'll make a point of just puttin' on down the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur, getting a nice cold beverage (soda of course) from the Big Sur deli, walking over to the river, putting my feet in the water and listening to the best of Doo *** on my IPod....

So I read on AMSOILS website that for "on road" riding you can double the manufactures mileage or go one year between changes. Does anybody do this or do you stick to the recommended service intervals? I would like to do the 8000 mile oil change, as this oil\filter is expensive.

I swapped to Amsoil at the 600 mile mark, and then changed again just before winter. I beleive it had just over 6400 miles on it. I won't change again until I put a ton of miles on it or it is time to store if for the winter. Hope that helps.

Not as expensive as repairs to a engine. ;D With such a investment why would you push the oil change to save a few dollars? Remind me never to buy a used vehicle from you. ;)

For #40 or $50 per oil change I think It's well worth it to do it every 3 to 4,000 miles to insure you get into the hundreds of thousands of miles before you have to do any major repairs. I wouldn't deviate from the manufacturers recommendation with any oil. That's my thoughts.
