I know there's a mustang seat that comes with a backrest, but I'm pretty happy with the stock seat and I really don't want to pay that much.

I'm not real sold on the backrest idea anyway, but if there was something maybe quick disconnect that looked half decent with the tall midnight sissy bar from yamaha... well, I've been fantasizing about the extra back support lately.

Any ideas?

I wondered the same thing waaaay back in the day when I first got this bike. :)
I ended up just using a tail bag strapped to the back seat for longer trips. It worked great, but now I have the Mustang seat and actual backrest.

Only option for a drives backrest besides Venjuraks wife is an aftermarket seat. The corbin gunfighter seat offers a back rest option but the seat alone you sit really low in and I feel the seat it self offers alot of back support.

I have never seen a backrest option for the stock seat. I have the Corbin, which has a pretty high back anyway, but also comes ready to accept any of their backrest options. If you look closely, you can see the leather tab at the top of the seat that stays closed with velcro covering the hole for the backrest. I only use the backrest for long trips. For most riding the high back works fine. Wish I didn't need a backrest at all, but I am over 60, so not much I can do about it.

Is that passenger seat any better/worse than the stock one?

I love my mustang seat with back rest but i didn't leve it as is, I had a guy shave away 2" of the seat and add back 1.5" of memory foam and a gel pad, we also took off a little of the sides and moved the back backwards about 1", only cost me $100 and it fits me perfect

Are you looking for a Quick release or permanent option. If permanent, I'm sure you could take the bike to a fab shop and have them make something up that would bolt to where the passenger backrest would go, but face forward for the rider.

Looks like Corbin makes a touring seat that could be used with the yamaha backrest. You can get a drivers backrest that is detachable. Thanks much ratboy for posting pictures......ive been searching for a seat like this. Very nice. Hope to order one very soon......Looks like you can get heated seats in the touring seat as well. Wife would love that. Be alot easier to get her to ride along on these early spring rides.

Yeah, I am lucky enough to live about a 2 hour ride from Daytona Corbin, so I got to see the options in person before buying. They will bring out various seats, put them on your bike, try out different pads ect. The dual touring saddle will allow the removable Corbin driver backrest along with the Yamaha passenger backrest, or you can use a Corbin backrest for both driver and passenger and both are removable. You just pull it out. If you look at the picture on the website as it changes from one view to another, it will show a view without backrests and you can see the tabs where the backrests go. Basically any of their backrests can be used in either location. Mine is the Gunfighter, which will only allow the driver backrest.
