I had an issue getting the bike into 1st gear at a light two times. It was the longest ride I did on the bike since picking it up used three weeks ago so I am still getting used to it. I think these two times I pulled the clutch in from a high gear and came to a full stop using the brakes only. NO matter how much I kept trying to click down I could not get into 1st gear so I had to start out in 2nd. The remainder of the ride home I decided to downshift through the gears and made sure I was in 1st before I came to a full stop and had no issues when I did this. Has this happened to anyone here?

If it happens again let the clutch out enough so the bike starts to roll forward pull it back in and try to downshift...down shifting when coming to a stop is always a good idea....you want to make sure you are in the right gear so you can get out of the way as quick as possible
After this happened and I started downshifting again I started to recall what I had learned in the MSF class that I should be doing this for the very same reason. Thx!

It can also get stuck in neutral as well. In that case just lay off the clutch for a few seconds. It should pop back in after it settles itself into position.

If you are in gear, you can push the bike either forwards or backwards - a little as an inch in most cases - with the clutch pulled in, then try to kick it into the gear you need.

The first time it really threw me because during the whole duration of the light I could not find neutral. Thinking I was in 1st (cause it would not drop further), I could come up easy enough and expected to find the neutral but when I couldn't, I kept trying to go all the way down. I kept fussing thinking I kept passing N. When the light changed I quickly figured out I was in 2nd. It would be really nice if there was gear indicator on the odo. I guess that would not be very cruiserish.

Oh, the gear indicators come on cruisers - next step up in price and size though usually.

I see them more and more often on 1500 cc and up.

I'd personally love a gear indicator and tach!! Tastefully small etc. but there none-the-less. I can generally tell when to shift etc. but in certain conditions I cannot hear/feel much and am just guessing.

In general, I've not been overly impressed with the speedo on the Stryker. The fuel gauge should always be up - you shouldn't have to click through mileage options and trip odometers to get back to your fuel gauge. I've been looking for options to replace it completely...
