I don't remember who it was on here, but they said they just removed it. He said he ran the lines down towards the ground. I believe the non California bikes just have lines going down the frame to nothing.

I don't think that's true. I don't know, mine's the CA model, but I think the drawings in the shop manual show non-CA models as not having the tank vent.

I think you need to at least plug the lines.

L&M did a build where they relocated it to behind the radiator.
I thought the manual shows the lines on the frame, then refers you to another section for Ca. model. I was just glancing through it, could be wrong.

Are they ever going to smog bikes?
I think if they do start smogging bikes, they will need to have whatever emission parts were on the bike. So I will probably remove my canister, but hang on to it... just in case..

Usually when California enacts a law it is from that date forward and all prior is grandfathered in. Right now with everything California has going on it will be a long time before there is a smog check for bikes. There's just not enough of an issue to spend the time on a bill for that.
+1. California doctrine follows expost facto. Which means any law enacted only applies to the affected from the enacting date. Preexhisting affected will be grand fathered in without judgement.
Ok, that's good to know. I thought that if the vehicle had emissions parts on it from the factory, that you had have those original parts ( or approved replacements ) on it. Diesel trucks for example. They have been coming with Cats for years, bit not needing smog. People were removing cats, but holding on to them for when they did start smogging them, because they would be needed. Not going to worry.. I don't see bikes being smogged anytime soon.
