I will start a funny conversation here …

Are you a biker, a rider or a motorcyclist?

We all know that there is a spirit difference …mostly related to our emotional relation with our machines, the environment and the reasons why we use those.

So please be respectful to the others … choose the definition that suit you the best and say why you think that you are that one.

Re: Aye you a biker, a rider or a motorcyclist?

I am the guy who will appreciate to ride in a TShirt with no helmet if the state permits it. Do not say that I am stupid since I am fully aware of the risk and I am ready to live with the odd just to feel the warm air on my skin. But I will FULLY respect my friend who wears a full leather suit on that same day.

I will happily leave for few days with very limited luggage, just to go some places I never been. I’ll be friendly as much as I can and will exchange with strangers and ride with them.

I will proudly spend a Friday night working on my bike to later on test drive it at 2am just for the kick.

I refuse to live in fear and just answer with a smile to anyone telling me that driving a motorcycle is dangerous. I know it … it’s just worth it.

It’s very difficult for me to let anyone else than me to work on my bike. I think it is part of the pleasure to maintain it myself.

In my mind I am a biker …

I'm a rider.
I've ridden the 4 Japanese manufacturers, Indians, KTMs and Triumphs. There have been bikes I've loved and bikes I've hated but no matter what I've been on it has always been about me and the journey.

Really not sure, I consider my self a weekend warrior meaning I usually only ride on the weekends or when I have time off of work. I ride solo most of the time because I can start when I want and stop when I want. I'll go out for a 75 mile ride 100 mile or 150 mile ride, how ever I feel at that particular time I saddle up. Don't have any planned course to go on just go in any direction. Try and take roads I've never been on and see where they'll take me. Time is never an issue when riding. I would say a leisurely Rider, that sounds good.

Here's my opinion of each category:

On one end of the spectrum, you have a motorcyclist. This is someone who uses a motorcycle to commute, and seldomly take it out just "because". That's not to say they don't enjoy the ride though. There has to be some enjoyment, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

Then on the other end of the spectrum, you have a rider. I think JimmyA explained that one perfectly: someone who rides just for the adventure.

Then, right in the middle, you have the biker. This is me all the way. A biker is someone who rides every chance they get. They ride for the pure enjoyment of it. They ride for the freedom of the open road. They ride if they have somewhere to go, and they ride if they have nowhere to go. There doesn't have to be a reason to ride, and yet there's always a reason to ride. A biker is a person who knows his/her boundaries and loves to push them, but at the same time never needs to. To a biker, point's A and B on a map are always the exact same place, your driveway. The only thing that changes is the stopping point(s) along the way. I am a biker, and this how I feel every time I turn the key.

A biker is someone who has put everything in his life second to riding with a club. I try to make this perfectly clear. I am a guy who owns and enjoys riding a bike. I am not a biker. I have yet to have to beat someone brains in because of what vest they wearing. Nor have I had to ride all night to deliver a shipment of meth. There are a lot of people now days pretanding to be bikers. And thats all well and good as long as thy stay in thier cozy suburban settings. But if you end up in a place with real bikers and come off with the attitude that your an equal we might not see you anymore.

hmm, I interpret a biker to be someone that enjoys working on there own bike just as much as riding it. Not only are they riders but they know everything about their bike and how it works and seldom if ever let a dealer do any work on thier bike as they will just do it themselves and prefer it that way. A biker is typically also a person who has usually been riding for many years. In this sense I consider myself a biker

This is my interpretation and by no means a definition of the word

Biker/Rider on the lines that Jimmy A and Bekohiko set. Don't agree with Christopher's take, but thats Ok. Nobody said we all had to agree with each other and I respect his feelings. Agree with Bozzly also- Well said.

Aye you a biker, a rider or a motorcyclist?

I call myself a biker because I live to ride but i never neglect my family or wife or job to ride so in that respect I guess I'm just a rider or enthusiast, but then again, I have been without a bike a few times and it drove me nuts till I got another

By this definition i am most definitely a biker, although my girlfriends mother just got married to Christophers version of a "biker". The wedding was hyaterical. Never seen a groom get married in a Harley Vest, jeans, and a backwards ratty Harley hat.

By these definitions I would be a Biker, but I would also fit a little under the tag of Rider.
