I thought I would throw this out and ask the forum.

When I purchased my slightly used 2011 Raven Stryker it came with the quick release Backrest:

The problem is - the old owner did not turn in the keys when he traded in the Stryker so when I purchased the bike - no keys! Plus, the backrest is not fully seated on the left side. So, I need keys. Should I contact Yamaha or just call a locksmith? Any idea what this might cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would just get a new tumbler set from Yamaha if it were me. Cost is probably wash compared to a locksmith hourly rate. As for the back rest not seating on the left side. This is a real saftey issue. Mine was a little difficult to put on as well. I purchased mine used as well and it seems a little twisted until I did this. Put the back rest on the bike. Losen ALL the screws. Let the backrest frame relax while it is on the bike with all the losened screws. Then tighten them all down. Should be close to custom fit now. I still had to bend the lower part inward as it seemed to still want to flare out a little. Not tools just grabs both sides and do a chest compression. It make take several attempts and there is not a lot of give. Now mine fits like a glove.

I'd try what strykeback said. Loosen the bolts and see if you can get it seated down then tighten up. This has sparked my own ? The ignition, sissybar and qr windshield keys look the same. I carry three keys on long trips. Could a locksmith re-key all the locks to my ignition key. Wonder if that's an option for ya.

When I got my backrest, the first thing that I did was head to a local locksmith, and had him change the lock on the backrest to work with the ignition key. I think it cost me $25 or so, but it was well worth it for the convenience of having everything work with one key. Other option I guess, is to mark each key differently so as to tell them apart, but I think that having the locks re keyed is alot more convenient than having 2 or 3 keys just for your bike all the time. Just my opinion.

Not to jack the thread but does anyone know if you can buy the latches on the QR backrest with out buying the whole backrest? I already have the QR tall but I've got a project I'm working on and need to find some of these

Thanks to everyone for the help - I will definitely use your advice on seating the backrest Strykeback - thank you. I also have a locked windshield I didn't even consider that I will also need keys for, so I may just price out a locksmith and get just one key. Luckily I bought the bike for a great price - especially considering the accessories that came with it - just wish I had the keys. Thanks again - I'm will update the cost in case anyone is in a similar situation. Here's my bike:

It's possible the dealer knows this person or at least has the contact info of the previous owner. They may be able to contact them and ask for the keys.

Just a thought
I had the same idea. However, after repeated attempts of asking the salesman to just give me the contact info and not getting a response I can only assume they don't want me to have the info or they can't get it.

I know this is an old post but wanted to chime in. I was having the same issue when I bought my "new to me" Stryker the Backreset was unlocked already but the guy didn't have the key. I went to the local lock smith in town and he charged $18 to re-key the tumbler to the ignition key!!

In the old days keys were cut on one side so you had to stick the key in one way - today's keys are cut on both side so you can stick it in either way - but you are still only using one side. I got a key blank and had one side cut for the ignition and the other for my windshield or if you have a quick release windshield and backrest you could eliminate one key........just a thought.
