I've only just done over 1000 km on the bike and notice when cleaning the back wheel is covered in black dust. It's similar to the Burgman Scooter I ride. Is this from the brake pads? I know I use the back brake a lot on the scooter but not much at all on the Stryker. Could the dust be from the belt? It's the first belt drive I have ever owned. I'm still amazed that the belt can cope with the stresses it is subjected to.

It's brake dust.. nothing to worry about... some brakes do that... you can buy 2 sets of brakes.. same brand.. 1 set will produce dust... the other won't... it's a roll of the dice... as long as they are not squealing they are allright.

Thanks guys, that's more or less what a thought. It is strange that there is so much on the back and hardly any up front. Especially when I use so much more front brake than back. Do they make back pads with a different material or what? I see the same on my scooter, heavy dust on the back where there is a single disk and almost no dust in front with double disks. As long as it works and I can ride I'm smiling.

It;s because of aerodynamics...in the front... all the air is passing through the wheel taking the dust and dissipating it. In the rear that same air is being pushed out and around the bike then coming together again behind the bike causing an "Eddy" of air that is not really moving much... the brake dust is not carried away as much thus settling on the spinning rim. ever notice on a cold morning riding behind another bike the exhaust steam kinda hangs for a moment before dissipating?

Took the words rite outta my mouth.... Great explanation, couldnt have said it better then that lol........ and on a quick note.... you really should be using your back breaks a lil more then never to even out when your breaking.... Just a suggestion......
