I own a red and chrome 2011 Yamaha Stryker and I am looking to change most everything that is chrome on the bike, black.

I have already swapped out the exhaust and air cleaner for black. Now I want to do the caps and light housing and so on and so forth. Any suggestions on where to find these parts? I can powder coat anything metal but allot of the parts are plastic. I would prefer replacement parts but will just paint them if it comes down to it.

Many have declared thier war on chrome in the forum. Most do not replace the parts but paint them instead. Even the blacked out models like my bike have chrome plastic engine parts, so certain parts are not available blacked out. Do a search on PlastiDip but understand the areas that this can be used are limited. As a removable rubberized coating it does not take much abuse and scuffs easily. I used it on my ignition and speedo cover. You can use It's DupliColor's Low Gloss Black Engine Enamel (DE1634) to do the plastic parts that surround the engine and fender stays.

I just painted everthing. No problem adhering to the plastic parts. Just treat it as though they are metal.

I used Krylon Fusion for Plastic to paint the speedo cover, ignition cover and two covers in the engine. Super easy....... Washed covers with Dawn detergent, let dry and sprayed..... no sanding, no primer....... Looks like it came from the factory that way

I swear by Plasti-Dip. I've dipped everything chrome, and I've had no issue with it. And to echo what was stated above, if you mess it up, or miss, it's much easier to get off than paint.

Just Googled it, it says it is a rubber finish. Am I missing something?

Not missing anything http://www.plastidip.com/

In 1972, Plasti Dip International invented and manufactured Plasti Dip®, a multi-purpose rubber coating, for the Do-It-Yourselfer. Although Plasti Dip® became well known as a tool handle coating, the Do-It-Yourselfer soon discovered hundreds of new application ideas with outstanding results. Today Plasti Dip® is used in the home and workplace like never before. For example, did you know that Plasti Dip® can be used in your home and garden, for arts and crafts projects, for maintaining and repairing automobile, marine and sporting vehicles, and for fixing parts and gear… just to name a few?
I used plastidip on the speedometer cover, ignition cover, and headlight housing

How easy is it to take the headlight housing off?? I was looking at doing the headlight and front turns/speedo thing this weekend in Plastidip....

The headlight housing I see 2 bolts on the side of the rear bucket...but then 8 million wiring harness going into it

Plasti dip is the best you can use. Going on one year since I've done mine and still looks great. Personally I would rattle can anything because Plasti dig is that much better.

PlastiDip has not held up well at all on my left side cover since there's no guard to stop your foot from rubbing it. You'll notice on the right side there is a wire guard to keep your foot from riding against the exhaust, thus protecting the cover as well. I've tried twice with the PlastiDip with the same exact result in failure. Thinking about the Krylon route next.

i did a mod on my bike and put a heal guard on the left side and worked great.

I'm with smturnage. In the first week I had mine I pulled everything shiny, speedo bezel, ignition cover, rear signals and all the "chrome" engine covers and sprayed them with Plasti Dip. Left side primary cover lasted about a week before eyelets on my boot scratched the Dip off so I re-sprayed. Good for only another couple of rides so I stripped that cover back to chrome. Next I'll sand it down to rough it up and spray it with Krylon. I didn't like glossy black on the Scythe mirrors I bought so I hit them with Plasti Dip too but it's not a good idea. Plasti Dip is really easy, looks good and holds up well for those parts that don't get much attention but it's kind of fragile and doesn't bind very strongly so I don't recommend it for the frequent use parts.

If you are looking for a paint that is "close" to the engine color itself, try VHT Black Pearl.
