If you use heat you may deform it. Try to get it off with just the fishing line. Then you can sell it here to folks who want to replace the chrome trim with black trim - me included!

I am doing a full customizing of my stryker I have Cobra pipes the black molding around the tank and many other stock parts like the black air intake. I switched the aftermarket cobra pipes for Vance and Hines. The cobra pipes are black covered. I have a lot of after market parts that are being changed for other after market parts lol. Ill make a good list and put it in the proper spot. Spoke up here cause many of you are looking for the black gas tank molding??

Fishing line isn't going to do anything to the paint(actually the clearcoat).
If you can get a nice sunny day in the high 80"s or above that would make things easier. Park it in sun, pry up a little with your fingers to look at where the strips are located and then wiggle the fishing line under it using a blow dryer as needed to soften the tape. Clean up the residue w/ Goo Gone etc.

Note: Look at some threads on this first to make sure you'll be OK w/ seeing the tank seam afterwards. Some people are fine and others have been disappointed. And it probably varies a little from bike to bike and might be more/less noticeable based on the color your tank is. Worst case you can always swing to the auto parts store and get some 3M tape and put it back on...

where did u get the ring that is around the gas cap?
Search. Haven't done it myself but the threads have good tips and places to order.

L&M has an octagonal one and I think Peterson trucks has the circular one but you have to call or the shipping is insanely high from what I remember. There also might be a few other choices as well.

Some people also replace the stock gas cap with a low profile one. Again, there are threads on this and they probably have pictures which will be very helpful in making a decision.

Just removed mine this weekend and blacked out some part. Thought I'd post some pics for you as you're discussing the removal here.

Along with the brake switch and horn mod, V&H exhaust, Cobra PowrFlow Intake and PowrPro Fuel Tuner... ready for better weather :)









By the way, also thinking of adding the L&M octangon gas cap. But it's hard to get here in Europe and ordering from the US would end up in almost 150 bucks ... that's too much for that thing imho.

Ok, thought I saw them listed "in stock" at some dealers just yesterday. Good to know, thanks. So I'll go looking for alterntives or even leave it as is now. Actually like the look :)
There may be some dealers that have left over stock. I know J&P Cycles has some of there stuff. Thats where I got my L&M rear fender at a big discount.
