I would like to get a windsheild for some added comfort on long rides. I really like the way the boulevard looks, but I'm wondering about it's effectiveness compared to a 17" or 22" quick-release windsheild. Is there anyone out there who has tried both of them? Or for those of you who have the boulevard, does it make a significant difference with the wind/bugs?

-Thanks

I have the boulevard, have not tried the others. For me, the boulevard blocks most of the wind, but I can feel it hitting my helmet at about eyebrow level. Not a huge deal imo because I wear a full face helmet and don't really notice it. It is nice that it takes the wind off the chest, especially for longer rides or highway driving.

I also wonder about differences in shield height but as for QR or not, keep in mind these accessories like the back bar, luggage rack, foot pegs extenders mirrors exe can be remove completely with out much effort at all. there for the QR option is not necessary and makes them easier to steal. Just my opinion.

i agree with toby, if you want the shield (or other accesories) off, it's just a few bolts. As for the shield height, be careful with the taller ones - my mother-in-law has a hd that I've ridden with a taller shield and the top edge is right in your sight line. You either has to slouch to see under it or sit tall to see over - not very safe imo

I have the yamaha 17" qr i like it and the only thing i feel is the wind on the top of the helmet at the highest point, I'am 5"6" not really noticeable i should have went with the taller one but that is just my taste. I don't know if you are aware of it but these windshields come with a lock and key. A LOCK IS ONLY TO KEEP HONEST PEOPLE OUT A THIEF IS GOING TO GET WHATEVER HE IS AFTER.

Hey Roger Thanks for the 411 on the shield. I am also 5'6" and will be looking for one before the spring comes. Cause We like long rides. For example I have had my bike 4 weeks and 1 day and have already put just under 2,000 miles on it. in between snow storms. As soon as the snows go away we are on the road again.

I have the 17" quick release and I hate it. I'm 6'3 and the wind goes over the top and hits me about chin level. No matter what helmet I wear, the wind is so violent that is shakes the sh#t out of my head and blurrs my vision at high speeds. I tried a skid lid (half helmet) and I might as well be wearing a parachute around my neck with the way the wind catches it. I've seen the 22" but I dont really like the looks of it.....It just looks funny having such a tall shield on the Stryker.....Now I ride with no helmet and my fingers crossed. :-\

That definitely answers my question. I'm 6'4" with a 32" inseam and a tall upperbody. I would rather have even pressure from the wind than to be blasted in the throat. Sounds like for me it will be 22" or nothing. I'll just use it for long trips I suppose.

I agree the tall shields and the tall back bars take from the stile of the bike. But for long rides it's comfort we need. But for you tall guys when you sit on the bike the taller shields don't look that bad. And you might try what I do. I have a short back bar and when we go on long rides we pack extra stuff on the back which extends the height of the back rest so I can lean back on my girl passenger or the pack on the back seat at an angle that the wind blows over me comfortably even with out a shield. And you guys with longer arms than I have at only 5'6" should be able to lean farther back and still reach the bars. I will ad extenders to my bars just for that reason. I learned this back in the days when banana seats with tall sissy bars were popular because the had a degree of lean to match what ever rake the forks had. Oh ya my wife says if you would keep the dam thing within the speed limits you wouldn't have that problem. lol.

131 mph so far but I cant confirm because I was too **** scared to take my eyes off of the road and look at the speedo. I had a Stratoliner next to me who says we went that fast. I think the Strat was just coming into 3rd gear.. ;D

I have a short quick release and it's perfect for me. I'm not as tall as some of the others. I had it installed when I bought the bike, so I've never ridden without it. A few days ago, I'd stopped to take some photos and it start raining lightly, and I noticed my helmet visor was wet. I figured it would clear off when I started riding. Well, I got on the bike and took off, and the drops just hung on my visor as I accelerated! So the visor definitely cuts down on the wind. But again, I'm well under 6 feet tall.
