I bought a brand new stryker about a month ago. It's still under warranty... but it's sunday and i want to ride. I went to start it the other day and it was just making a sound like sparks coming from a loose wire. I charged the battery and tightened the terminals and now it will turn to the "on" position fine, and show everything in the gauges...

Now when i try to start it - it will simply "Pop" like the sound when you smack positive and negative terminals together on a battery charger. It will take a second, the guage will reset, and it will be back to normal. The bike runs if someone pushes and i Jump stat it, but it will not start on it's own.

Ideas? Where is the starter located?

Started yesterday at 180 miles exactly... it currently has 207 miles. go figure.

That sounds very strange. This won’t account for the electrical sounds you are describing, but new Stryker owners should know this tip when starting; let the speedometer needle sweep across so the fuel injection primes before you try to start. Doesn’t sound like this is your issue but still something you should know.

I'm sure it's a minor problem but you could very easily make it a major one, I'm not confident enough in my skills to take the chance

I am on my Sunday drive stopped for coffee and saw this. If there is popping you have a wire disc'd somewhere. Most likely in the ignition path to the plugs. Key to off and look for loose connections. Just wiggle and gently pull. There should be very little slack on all wires. Most likely is on of the plug wires going to the top of the cylinders or the main coil feeds. Good luck.

It sounds like it could be a loose hot wire on the starter. Starter is on the front of the engine in plain sight from the right side.

Even if it's starting I'd get that sht looked at bro... new bike shouldn't have any headaches.

I really want to ride today :-\ .... I'll prob just jump start it. I just checked the hot wire on the starter and it's tight. The pop is coming more from under the seat. I had the battery out and checked the hot wires there. I'm leaning toward a solenoid that's right there. But i'll be dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow.

What if the bike leaves you stranded somewhere, won’t start. Ya gonna leave a brand new Stryker parked on the road for a towtruck to come get?? There will be another day to ride…

Would rather be down one day rather than jack something up and have it in the shop for a couple weeks.

Sounds like you might have a bad starter relay....but if it's something shorting out you could end up trashing your ECU

It's a brand new bike man !!!! It shouldn't give you any problems unless they sold you a lemon!!! or an used bike... I would take it to the dealer and have them figure it out... Also they shouldn't charge you for it since it's BRAND NEW from the dealer...

I took it to the dealer today and just got it back - according to them, it was a shorted out battery. Very strange... considering there was only 260 miles on the battery. But regardless, it's running fine now.
