Here is an update from the results of the investigation into the broken forks from Brent @ Tejas Motorsports

Hello everyone,

I wanted to post an update and a final conclusion to put all of your minds at ease. First off, thank you all for your patience during the investigation and not jumping to conclusions until all of the facts were on the table. Based on the damage sustained, the Yamaha technical representative was able to conclude that the damage sustained by the forks were during the accident and not the cause of the accident. Here are the key points that he laid out:

1. No damage to the front of the frame or the oil filter area – If the forks would have broken during the ride, this area would have had severe road rash.
2. Front fork shear – They were sheared left to right and from a slight angle moving front to rear.
3. No damage to the top of the front fender. If the forks would have broken during operation, the front fender would have shown damage from the triple clamp after the forks collapsed.
4. Brake hoses are still in tact. If the forks would have snapped during operation, the brake lines would not have held up under the weight of the motorcycle.

Again, the lack of damage in key areas concludes that this was not a manufacturer defect and was the result of the accident and not the cause of the accident. It appears that the forks snapped after the motorcycle went off the edge of the road and when the weight of the motorcycle was on its side.

I hope this clears up any concerns that you guys might have had, but I think the majority of you guys understand that in an accident things happen fast and are just that, an accident.

Regards,
Brent Hodge

Very good thanks. I didn't want to say but it kept coming to mind that the first thing he said he did was apply brakes while in a turn.
