Hi guys,

I had a bad luck last weekend. While passing a car on some remote back road, my throttle cable just snapped ( half an inch from the throttle grip). So I suddenly lost all power and had to park on the side of the road.

The chance of having a metal cable snap at 5000 miles is close to nothing. So after investigation I remembered that I had some difficulty putting back the throttle cable into place few months ago after installing new grips. So I guess I damaged it with my pliers.

So I got stuck in the middle of nowhere, called a towing and towed the bike to my father’s place, who was living around 30 miles of the incident. Needless to say that not a single Yamaha dealership was having the part in store, so I ordered it online and I am currently waiting for delivery.

Now I have a technical question and I can’t look by myself since my precious Stryker is 100 miles from me as I write this down. I ordered the part (the upper throttle cable) and wonder what will I need to disassemble to install it. From memory I am under the impression that I will need to uninstall the fuel thank …but I am not sure.
One of you guys knows or could have a quick look for me please!? I would like to go back to my father’s place with the new part well prepared.

Thanks guys!!!

ps: It sucks losing your bike for 2 weeks in the middle of the short summer.

Can you believe that I almost lost two weeks of riding in the middle of the season. The cable is finally in the mail, I should get it before the weekend.

Anyone could take a quick look so I will not be surprised...

Thanks guys!

Did both cables snap or just 1? I think we have a "safety" double action, so you could switch the lines around and use it "reverse" style. So if you pushed the throttle forward, it would actually be revving the engine. I'm not entire sure about this, but I just heard of something doing this yesterday on a similar bike.

NO WAY LOLL ... I did not think of that one!

The pull (throttle up) one broke, so no throttle at all.

Ok I did the job. I will answer my own question, just in case someone make a search for this later on.

You do not need to remove the gaz tank.

- There is a plastic cover in the way.
- The air box is in the way.

This is pretty much an easy job. Took me around 40 minutes.
