I had to go out of town for a couple of weeks so the bike just got to set in the garage for just under a month. When I got back I went to start the bike. Fired up just fine and sat at idle for a few seconds. Shifted into neutral and it died. Haven't been able to start it since. Does anyone know what might cause this or any recommendations for solving this? The battery and starter are fine.

Did you start the bike in gear with the stand up? You could have a side stand safety switch that is sticking.

So you got the bike off the kickstand pulled in the clutch and started the bike but when you shifted into neutral it shut off - sorry for repeating what you said just wanted to go through the sequence. If you did all of the above it shouldn't shut off...you said the battery is good...how do you know that for sure has it been on a battery tender?

Checked all the normal stuff. Got the fuel cutoff in there too. I used jumper cables to help it out if it was the battery. Sounded exactly the same. It cranks just fine. Just won't fire. I'm wondering if maybe the fuel is bad or some water condensated inside the tank?

Best of luck. Cannot hurt to drain the gas from the main tank and then add some marine Stabil or like product.

Definitely try and start the bike from the recommended sequence(bike on kickstand, bike in neutral, kill switch is in run position etc.) I know you did all this but do it again for good measure.

When you used jumper cables was the other vehicle running if it was don't do that you can damage the ECU.

So I've still been unable to get the bike to start. I don't think the fuel pump is working. I'm not sure if the pump is bad or if some of the wiring is loose. Has anyone messed with the wires that could help me figure out where there might be a loose connection or a way to test to see if it is the fuel pump itself?

Have you checked the fuses?

I had a friend helping me. He looked at them. Said they were good. I might just double check them.

Just found a bad fuse. Wasn't in the main housing. Was in a clear plastic box that I had to dig around a bit to find.

That's the fuel pump one.
Hopefully the bike starts/runs. I believe there is a spare fuse next to it. I'd replace this and then keep an eye on things. Certainly fuses can fail but considering how simple of a device they are they generally don't. Sorry but you might just be experiencing a symptom of the real problem.

Then again, hopefully just a fluke. Regardless, get the spare fuse(s) so you aren't stranded anywhere if it happens again.

Note: If you are ever needing to test the battery voltage "while cranking" this is the fuse to pull for that test.

So I replaced the fuse and everything sounded normal again. That is, until I went to start it. The fuel pump kicked on then when I went to start it, it wouldn't crank. It sounds like its going to then just quits. Doesn't lug like a starter usually does for a low battery. It just quits.

I also rechecked all the other fuses, all good.

The battery is probably low from sitting and the other times you tried to start it.
