I tried searching around the forums to no avail.

I went and test rode a used Stryker today from a private seller. Loved the bike, but here is my concern.

2011 Styrker 1600 miles.

Problem: When the engine is running it will not shift from 1st to Neutral. clutch level pulled all the way back. The shifter refuses to budge. I put all my muscle behind it and no go.

However, I use the engine shut off switch and kill the engine = no problem. Shifts to neutral easily.

This is a major concern before I get in to negotiations on this bike.

Any feedback from the more knowledgeable than me crowd?

Got mine used with 1100 miles and never had that problem. Me personally I would call a dealer and ask them. Maybe check the oil, they can bit a clunky when the oil is low. Ask if he had the 600 mile service done.

1) Like Strykeback said, make sure it is topped off with oil. Even a ½ full window can cause difficult shifting on my bike.

2) Try letting the clutch out ½ way and then feeling for the shift as you pull it back in. You have to come to stop quickly without time to downshift, find yourself at a stoplight in 2nd or 3rd gear? It is very difficult to shift down through the gears to get to neutral at a dead stop, so you let the clutch out a bit, shift down a gear, and do this process again. Try this before stomping hard on the shift lever

Had the same problem most of the summer would flip from first to second back to first and would never catch in neutral while the engine was running. Probably drove 6 or 7 thousand miles like this. Then in August, adjusted the free play in the clutch the problem went away. I can find neutral no problem now.

Thanks for backing me up Sonic. We have both fixed this reported problem by doing the same thing.

You said when you shut the bike off it shifted into neutral OK...when you restarted and shifted into first did the bike lurch forward?
In my case no. When the bike is shut off, neutral is easy to get into. When I start the bike its still in neutral. I always back my bike into the garage and do it with the engine shut off. So I put in to N to back it up. If the bike is running, it just seems to want to skip N, whether I shifting up or down.

OK this sounds like my clutch lever as well. So where do you adjust/how. I know dumb question.:D
Right at the lever, There is a thumb screw you loosen then adjust cable stud in or out. Then retighten thumb screw. You will want some freeplay but not over 1/16". You can watch clutch release lever near rear engine cover on right side while you operate clutch lever on handle bars to make sure you have at least some freeplay.
