Took my speedometer apart for what I hoped was the last time to put the latest and greatest 3rd gen speedo plate in and when I rode er home from work through 30mph traffic, I was doing 90 in 2nd gear at 1500 rpm and I had traffic right on my arse! Now what to do? This was my 4th time taking speedo apart. Always had good luck till today. Speedo makes full sweep from 0 past 130 and back to just below 0 just turning on key. But calibration is way off! Any ideas short of getting a new gauge?

So it says you are going faster than you are? If anything, I would think it might slip, but I don't know why it would show faster..

Yes it is just below 0 when running setting still. It goes slowly up to 50mph in 1st when I shift into 2nd and then just climbs away. I am doing no more than 30 though in reality. Lots of preholiday traffic in this small town today. When I come to a stop it goes back to just below 0 again as it should. Needle movement is very smooth is not jerky. I think I'm screwed and tattoed with it now.

Don't sound good. Maybe try disconnect the battery????????????????

I would check the wiring and test the speed sensor. Maybe do a diagnostic test like acepilot2007 did to find his problem.

Sorry to hear it 11, I am sure this is the last thing you want to be doing now that the weather is starting to turn. I would try what joe said and unplug battery and reset the computer most likely a shot in the dark but worth a quick try.

Dont know if your interested but theres a good speedo on ebay, the whole assembly for $425. Just a thought if all else fails

Found the problem!!!!!! It was not me, but Nyjol!! I have a KPH speedo not a MPH plate. Actually reads to 200 KPH!!! I will be contacting Nyjol again!!! Thanks for the helpful hints from everyone though.

LOL, yea worst part is I was probably speeding in town anyway looking at my speedo climb. 90 KPH is like 55Mph!!. HEHEHE

Anybody with half a brain would have noticed this during installation, but not me!! Especially while watching the sweep and trying 10 times to get needle positioned right. LOL

You got me all nervous since I have a plate waiting to be installed. Glad it is not a problem.

You should keep KPH since we ride "metrics" anyway :tongue:
Plus think how sharp your mind will be constantly doing the conversion back-n-forth...
