I know a while ago I mentioned a backrest, and someone posted a link to a dirt cheap plain jane plain and simple one. Going to do a 10/12 hour ride in the next month to check out the New England foliage, and I figure a back rest would be nice for the broad on the back. (Also nice for me, because I can use her chest as a backrest! Lots of natural padding! ;) )

No one?? I know back in the day there was a topic and someone posted a pretty cheap backrest and pad for under $200......Not looking for anything crazy as I will prob only bolt it on when I go on long trips and not run it daily.

All the ones I see are $250 just for the metal....

Anyone want to loan/rent me one!?!? :D

I have used a milk crate strapped to my passenger seat with a pillow on the front of it to lean on ;)
I call it my backwoods backrest. I still use it even on our little around the lake jaunts if my back is troubling me.
the other thing I like to do is I have my camping sleep system packed into a duffel bag, with pillows n everything, so that the duffel is pretty full, then I bungee that down, again with a pillow on the front, I make sure the pillow doesn't extend down into the driver's seat, that the bottom edge rests on the top edge of the back of the drivers position and it is very comfy. You can check pix of my bike in my gallery, I posted 2 there of the bike packed up ;)

Like I said before, I am going 2up on a 10+ hour ride, so it is comfort for her, and comfort for me... If it was a solo ride, I would rig up some stuff no problem....

Cheapest I had found when I was looking......(I'm complete solo rider now, so never pulled the trigger) This is old, so perhaps others sites may be cheaper

$153 for JUST the backrest....then another $70 for the pad. That is just ridiculous...why don't these all come as one piece!?
I have found the cobra standard/tall (it is 17 inches) backrest to be the most cost effective, and comfortable solution to date. It supports far enough up the back to make long days in the passenger seat comfortable, and it is the least expensive I have found over all and comes as a complete unit, side bars, backrest and pad and hardware to bolt it on.
I would caution against getting a 'short' backrest even tho it might look more stylish. trust me, as the one who usually spends the time experiencing it, she will want the tall one. also, tall one is easier to hang sissybar bags off of for luggage.
if you are using the stock seat on your bike, she WILL want an airhawk pillon pad...
these suggestions are from one who has spent about 16k miles riding the passenger seat ;) before I started riding my own. 12k on my old virago, and the other 4k at various times when we had one bike in for service or for fuel efficiency just decided to use one bike not two.

AS much as it will be used, I don't really care if it is a quick release or not....it is 4 bolts...

I think the tall will probably be the best option....like mentioned, more room to strap **** to..

I just scored a shorty backrest for 180 on eBay used only twice. They are crazy expensive new and ridiculous that you need to buy a pad seperately
