I noticed during my 16,000 mile service that my front brake pads look almost new and my rear ones are wore almost to the metal. I hardly ever use my rear brakes. I have noticed from time to time that my rear rotor gets very hot to the touch even after a very short ride around the neighborhood. I wonder if the pads have been dragging on the rotor?

No scoot mods and I definitely keep my foot well away from the lever so it's not that

Hummmm...... then it could be the caliper. Why don't you put the bike on the lift and move the tire and see if there is any resistance plus apply break and move the wheel again to see if any resistance develops. I think this is the only way we can test if caliper moves back after breaking.

I've caught myself just gently resting my right foot on the brake pedal. I've asked the wife who usually follows me, if my brake light comes on as I'm along and she said she hasn't seen it. However it may just be enough pressure to apply the brake but not the light? Anyway I'm conscious of it now and keep me eye on it.

When I'm cruising I rest my foot under the lever so it's not resting on it at all
