Double sided tape worked just fine to attach it. It's good to note, i had to grind mine down a bit, so the gas tank lid would close.

If you call them and tell them to send it usps they will ship it for around $4. They do this because the usps shipping is without tracking so they will tell you they won't be responsible for lost shipments. I got mine quickly and it works nicely.

I practically begged them to send it cheaper and the dude didn't want any part of helping me out .. he said 12 bucks was the cheapest he would do. That's my luck though when dealing with those kind of ppl!!!

So I got my EBAY ring today, and I ASSumed it was flat underneath...nope, there is maybe 1/16th-1/8th of plastic to actually get double sided tape to stick to...has anybody built it up with say epoxy...to get more surface to stick to the bottom with?

For mine, once I had wrapped the tape around the ring just enough so it would stick to the tank, I could no longer lock the gas cap. That little bit of tape sticking out was enough to make the ring too high for the cap to lock down. Would have to remove some plastic from the underside of the ring. Without tape it fit fine, just fell loose when you removed the cap.

Well, funny thing is, I dry fitted it and it was snug to the tank with the cap on. So you're saying you just use pressure to hold it in place? I did think of doing that

You could use it without the tape. The pressure would hold it on until you remove the cap, then it will fall loose. I'm not sure if down the line you would get scratches from the ring moving or vibrating.

Dry fitting, it fit perfect. But when I added the 2 sided tape, it raised the ring up just enough that I could no longer engage the gas cap no matter how hard I pushed. I would have to shave the underside of the ring to compensate for the raised height. I dont know if others have had this issue, or if its a manufacturing slight on my ring. Atm I'm leaving the ring off.

Had to trim mine in the lathe. Then put just enough 2 sided tape hanging down from flange to hold it to tank.

Lucky you. With a mass manufactured product, its sure to have slight variances. I'm thinking about doing Blackvapors attachment method.

Anyone who's still looking to do this mod, I came up with a different way of attaching it. I though it would be cool to make it removable so I could take it off for cleaning and polishing.

I got a tube of steel epoxy and some 1/2" neodymium hobby magnets. I mixed up the epoxy putty and rolled it into a long, thin tube and formed it into the underside of the chrome ring. Once it was all even, I pressed 2 magnets into each side of the ring into the putty.

Not only do the magnets stick magnetically to the steel putty, but then the putty dried to the magnets. And these magnets are f'n STRONG!

Now I just gently attach the ring to my tank, and put the gas cap back on. No other mods were necessary. The only thing I did was lay a sheet of 120 sandpaper on the tank and rubbed the chrome ring back and fourth to slightly conform the bottom of it to the shape of the tank.

I love that magnet idea .. I am going to do that today .. I have been just putting it on without tape bc its too high to lock the cap in place and didn't feel like sanding the bottom yet but that is awesome .. thanks Jester

You can also do what I did. Fill the cavity with silicon and push small magnets into the silicone. After it dries, you basically have what Low and Mean did with theirs.

Just a thought for anyone doing the magnet route. You can also glue a thin piece of cloth or felt on each magnet so you don't have to worry so much about the paint getting scratched.
That's a good idea, too.

Believe it or not, I have the magnets on mine recessed enough where they aren't actually touching the paint. The magnets are so strong, they keep the chrome ring securely fastened.
