Well I didn't see any old post like this one so i figured I would start!

This weekend I went on a ride with 15 or so other bikes for a friends birthday, ride went great, but could have been a nightmare! We were all riding staggered formation, me positioned about in the middle (Hope my terms are correct, just started road biking this summer) and a car that was in front of the pack was slowing up to turn, so we started kinda "stacking up" 2 abreast... we slowed up to somewhere around 35 -40 MPH or so, after the car turned we started to stagger back out and speed up. what shoots out next to bike in front me?! A "football" sized chunk of asphalt that must have plopped out of the back of a truck, I had ZERO time to react other than stand on the pegs (Dirtbike days)!!! I hit it square and it launched my Stryker completely off the ground @ 50 MPH and let me tell ya, my tailbone STILL hurts!! The guys behind me though I was gonna biff it!!! As far as I can tell there was no damage done to my bike!! I was looking the forks over and could tell the forks bottomed out or came darn close from the ring left on it from the wiper!! That was my first and I hope, my only scare!!! Is there anything I should check or be watching for as far a damage goes??!! Ok guys, whatz your closest call!?!?

I'd say you got mighty lucky there. My wife hit a chunk of asphalt like that in her car and it caused something like $4k in damage. Screwed up rims, axles, the transmission pan, etc...

I'd say my closest calls are mostly from riding in severe weather. Almost curbed the CBR one time on an off ramp going too fast for conditions. Almost ran the stryker up under a semi once trying to stop in time, slipping and sliding most of the way. There may be a pattern there. :p

I have hit all kinds of things in the road too. Potholes, animals. Had a rather soft-looking bush bring me to tears when it hit my shin at 80mph once.

Oh, here's a favorite - I was making a u-turn one time, dragging the whole side of my foot and my toe grabbed the road pretty hard, and it twisted my foot against the peg. I actually thought I broke something, but I was scared to stop. I didn't realize I was OK until I got home and realized I could still stand on it.

Had to slide to avoid a dog. Screaching tire scared him out of the way. Jumped a fresh kill armadillo (the don't give an inch).

Other than that, the usual cell phone driver trying to come over on me. Most of the timw a honk works, but I have left a boot mark or 2. These long legs come in handy.
