I was able to install the "newer" auto tuner this week. After a 75 mile ride though twisties, the city and some highways, it performed better than I thought it would. I could defiantly feel a difference with response throughout the entire RPM range. The engine seemed to run smoother at while cruising and didn't feel like it was working as hard during acceleration. That notorious skipping in 2nd gear seemed to lessen dramatically.
For those that don’t know, the 2nd gen auto tuner has different parameters at “stock setting” and a rheostat that allows you to adjust the fuel mixture when the auto tune isn’t active. Another cool thing is, if you are having problems and you think it‘s the tuner, you can turn it off via the rheostat instead of having to fully remove the entire unit.
This install took literally 5 minutes. I haven’t felt the need to adjust the mixture because, honestly I totally satisfied with it now.
