I'm new on here and I'm sure this subject has been covered, but I'm wondering what are some of the comparisons, pro and con, between the two? I'm about to purchase some new pipes and I want to make sure I make the right choice.

I like the look of the v&h better and I like the v&h more curved rear pipe, but I'm concerned about how close it comes to the rider's leg.

I haven't heard any coemplaints about the V&H touching your leg even though the question has come up frequently. From what I understand is they provide a foot peg extention to move your foot out a bit. This may just be hearsay. If you have the stock air cleaner then I'm pretty sure you are okay because your knee will hit the cleaner before your foot hits the exhaust. That is unless your are really bowlegged! ;D

I have the cobras and I like them better becasue they show more of the bike, and sound nice. I did burn my finger on them, buts that because when I mod'ed a garage door opener i put it to close to the pipes and now i have to move the switch or wrap the first half of the pipes.

Where did you hear that dude? The Cobra is much better, sounds better, looks better, they came in black, you can see more of the bike without that extra bend on the rear pipe. ;) I'm just kidding but I guess you can tell I have the Cobra Swept. I had a hard time deciding between the two also. Finally went with the Cobras tho. There are a few threads about people having issues with chugging and popping after installing either the Cobra or V&H pipes but it sounds more like a Cobra auto tuner issue than the pipes.

I may have missed something but I think the auto tuner issue is only with those that have the V&H, I have the Cobra trifecta, swepts, powrflo intake & auto tuner, no issues here, I have heard both side by side and it's just gonna come down to preference guys, I bought the Cobras more for the performance aspect since i knew I ws getting the intake and auto tuner

i agree with clar, this is really about personal preference. i have the Cobra's and i really like the look of them, and really i think the sound is just right. its loud when you need them to be, and rumble at the right times, and aren't annoying loud. just right.

I have the V&H big radius and they do get a little close tothe leg but have not had any problems as they do provide a spacer for the right foot pef to give you more clearance.
Boomer, where did you get the black Big Radius? Or did you have the heat shields ceramic coated?
I have both the pipes and the shields coated, wasnt much more for them to go ahead and do the pipes. I had performance coatings do it here in OKC.

My only complaint about the V&H is that silly bend in the rear pipe.... BUT....V&H has been around for a long time and I am sure they are a great product. Like other people have said, it is really a personal choice.
The reasoning behind the bend is to keep both pipes equal in length... the theory behind this has to do with sonic wave timing... it's the same with Car headers. It does not matter if the the system is a true 2 into 2... but if it is a 2 into 1 into 2 the pressure created at the point the 2 pipes meet will be "out of time" Again it's theoretical... As the exhaust pressure from tube "A" is entering the choke point... the exhaust pressure from Tube "B" the Shorter of the tubes.. reaches the choke point "Out of turn" causing a shock wave to travel back up to the cylinder... What happens then... performance degradation...

I get so many compliments on the sound coming from my vance and hines pipes these days. The sweet throaty rumble is indescribable. The bike is just plain more fun to ride now that it no longer sounds like a scooter.

I do have to wear cowboy boots to keep my leg for being burned though. Still contemplating moving the controls forward to see if that helps.

Superdave, what part of the pipes are burning you? Is it that big curve on the back pipe, or some place else? I am trying to decide on pipes and every bit of info helps.

The curve on the back pipe comes out significantly from the engine. This bend allowes the pipes to be the same length and makes the bike look very good. With cowboy boots on I am quite comfortable and can ride long distances just fine. If no cowboy boots the pipe rests on my calf and I find myself placing my right foot on the outside edge of my foot peg to keep from getting my calf burned.

For the first hour of riding I thought I had made a mistake placing these pipes on my bike because of the burn issue. After a couple of days the look and the sound is so incredible that I would do this again in a heartbeat.

Hope this helps. Here is another angle of the pipe bend.
