Hey there, new guy here. Just bought my Raven 13 days ago and already have 935 miles on it! Love this bike! And am loving this site, there are a lot of you guys and girls here with some awesome ideas, so thanks for that :D. Now on to my post...

I do not want to get the mounting bracket that mounts to the axel. That one just seems to low for my tastes. So unless I just haven't seen one, I don't think anyone makes a bracket that attaches to the two bolts on the upper belt guard. I made this "prototype" of what I want to make. I plan on using 18 ga. steel or aluminum and welding the two pieces together and then powdercoating them. And I'll be getting the vertical frame with the integrated led's at the top like I've seen a few others here get.

My question for you experts out there is this. Does anyone know or think or have actual experience mounting a plate there? Is the plate going to be floppy and possible break off in the wind while attached to the upper belt guard? My other question is visability? Do you think it is easily seen where it's at? I've already ordered my vertical personalized plate, and while I wait for it to get here (2 months they say :() I'd like to get the bracket set up.

Thanks for your help!
Nic

Wow this site sure has traffic :). Wasn't expecting this many replies so quickly. Thanks for the positive feedback. Other than liking where it is located, any thoughts on the execution of the bracket?

@ MNSTRYKER26 - The cost is $100. Same price of a car personalized plate. And you have to personalize it, there is no "regular" vertical plate. Also, you only get 4 characters on it. I'm pretty excited to get it though, haven't seen any legal vertical plates yet. I'll be the first as far as I'm concerned ;D

@ Natedog - No problem. I was dissapointed in the lack of pictures or information on the seat, passenger seat, and fender rack. But the dealer gave me $300 in yamaha accessories so I figured why not try it out. I'm liking the the look of the rack and solo seat and when the girlfriend wants to ride with me, I can swap out the rack for the seat. It is a serious PITA to install either of those properly, but not impossible. I am going to be looking for a way to mount the passenger seat right to the rack so the rack won't have to come off every time. Here's a couple more pictures for those curious...

As far as strength, I think that the belt guard bolts are fine. I mounted mine there initially and ran it for a couple of weeks without issue. The thing that led me to ultimately move it to the axle was visibility. It seemed like the OEM turn signal was always blocking some part of the plate whenever I was behind the bike.

I finally decided to go to the axle because I didn't want to get pulled over for an obstructed plate or something.

Nice job with the plate bracket!!

FYI, I also had my plate mounted on the same bolts.. actually it was just on the lower one. So yesterday I go out to the bike and notice that the plate just doesn't look right. Well come to find out the little bracket on the back ( the lower one) had broke from stress. I would strongly recommend that you reinforce and brace it some how. I am glad that I noticed it, becuase it would have been ugly if it broke and went into the rear wheel while I was moving.

Sorry man, I am not trying to piss in your cheerios, just don't want to hear about this happening to anyone else.

Thanks. I was thinking the turn signal might be an issue. I'll be debating that before I make the plate bracket. I only spent about 20 min cutting out and taping together that mock up.

Not a problem. That's why I was asking. If I go through with this I'll see if I can somehow reinforce the upper and lower brackets together.

Fbird, I made my own bracket as well. I mounted it around the swingarm, using the two bolts closest to the arm and so far it has held up well (the swingarm has most of the weight). There are pics on the "custom tag bracket" thread.

Looks great!! And if you are concerned about the turn signal issue, have you looked at this yet? If not, it may be a possibility for you, depending on what you want, of course!! :). Just an idea....
