On Memorial Day Weekend 2012, motorcycle rider Chris Moore was arrested by Dallas Deputy Sheriff James Westbrook. The arrest was part of a crackdown against sport bike riders. Moore says Officer Westbrook made up a charge in order to gain access to the video camera mounted on his helmet. I think this is completely outrageous. Officer Westbrook pissed all over this guys constitutional rights...I would've been upset too.

Do they not send cops to law school anymore when it comes to this kind of stuff where the cop is breaking the law they should be arrested and booked.
I agree 100%. I think officers should have to pay the piper and face charges when this type of thing happens. Why is it that when an officer knowingly violates a person’s rights and in doing so costs them time in jail along with large financial expenses *bail, fighting the charges, impound fees*…the most “justice” you can hope for is that the charges are dropped by the judge after the fact?! All the while the officer will walk away scot-free knowing that he really effed you and he got away with it.

Has anyone followed up to see where this has gone with the courts?
This just hit the local news yesterday June 19th and I'm sure more info will be made available in the coming days as it's starting to get more local media attention.

The deputy surely has explaining to do. Theft of the video obviously was not the intent of the deputy. The video is online and back with the owner. The deputy never initially told the rider why he was being pulled over, so a horrible trumped charge of obscured plate was made. While that stop was being made there was probably no less than 100 four wheel vehicles that passed their location with safety violations that outdo this idiotic event. This was a harassment, plain and simple.

The part I least like is the smirk faced DPD officer that told the rider to shut up while he was being arrested. He is what a badge and gun do when strapped to an immature moron.

As a man with a Criminal Justice degree and 6 years experience as a police officer I can assure you that we were not trained the way this officer acted. I agree with the above and find that this "cop" should have charges brought against him! Completely out of hand and obviously has a bad case of short man syndrome! Shmuck!!!

Weird that the footage made it to the internet. A young black guy I work with got pulled over in his new Charger last year and harassed, and taped the whole thing on his phone. They pulled him over after he changed lanes ahead of the police car and claimed he "cut them off" so wrote him up for that. Then they ended up writing like him six fix it tickets (on a completely stock car) and took his phone and deleted the recording before they left.

He thinks he has it all figured out, though. Said he was going to go to court (without a lawyer) and lay down the law with the judge. Never did hear how that worked out for him; I assume he got laughed out of court.

By the way, that article says it happened Memorial Day 2011 and three people were arrested.
its talking about a group of sport bikers that shut down one of the dallas freeways last year to do some stunting so this year the cops was out to make sure it didn't happen again but the cops are doing it way more illegally then the group that shut down the road last year.

Indeed it is. Well, my reading comprehension is clearly shot for the day. I'm going back to the garage to put gas tank back on the bike. :p

interested to see where this ends up.
I don't think the kid even smart mouthed him at all. Just totally unprofessional at the least.

I will be surprised if anything does come of this. Honestly, we all know that it is wrong, but seriously you think that anything will come of this. I am sure that this will be swept under the rug and forgotten about, and the same guy will do it again. Cops like this make me sick, they are a disgrace to law enforcement.

BUT... I hope that this does make it to the national news. Maybe with national attention something will be done.

What's sad is too many cops abusing their power and making people feel that way about them. One of my best friends is a cop, but honestly as a whole I don't like those bastards. Since I've had my Stryker I've been pulled over 4 times....more than I have in the last 6-7 years in my truck. Yes, on one of these occasions I was speeding(I can't help it that my modded Raven is so **** fast), but the other 3 times were complete bullshit that did not result in a ticket, just a bunch of nonsense lecturing. I have been tailed several times as well, for no **** reason. I am a law-abiding, local business owner and I'm already tired of being targeted because I'm on a motorcycle.

I think what is sad is all of these youtube videos of sport bikers tearing up the highways. My best friend is a sport biker but as a whole I hate all those bastages.

Now isn't that just a bit of a shallow statement?

People that want to lump every police officer into the bastard or POS pool just have no clue what they do in a positive light, every day. Every day. I have many police officer friends and the stories they tell would make you cringe. But the vast...vast majority of police officers follow procedures. So please, don't even try to justify your hatred for a valorous profession with the belittling statement that they are ALL bad.
