Deeper Comparison
My first post. Love the forum. I have been looking forward to buying a Stryker for months now. But I came across a Raider at a great price. But after plenty of research, I am actually very lost as to how or why a Raider is a better bike than the Stryker. It seems like the bigger engine only makes the bike an unoticeable bit faster than the Stryker; based on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times I have found. Clearly it has more torque and HP but why are the numbers almost identical. I ask because on paper the bigger engine doesn't seem to equal better performance.
I am interested to know what I am obviously missing. My intentions are to ride with a passenger at times and on long trips. I like the looks of both bikes equally. So performance and comfort are the deciding factor here. But I am not seeing a difference in performance or comfort that justifies the extra cash. Any input would be appreciated.

My dealer has that same exact bike on the floor. I have been considering a trade for the past month, but air cooling turns me off some, also the reach to the bars is a little too far. I guess that takes me back to my original question; Is the Raider worth the extra money for what you'll get out of it? So maybe I can ask it in a way that anyone here can answer, because this is my concern:For me, it was the lack of a liquid cooling system that turned me away from the raider. Well, that and the higher insurance for the larger engine. I did not feel the Raider was worth the extra coin for what I would get out of it. Just what worked for me and what variables were more important to ME.

Has any of you Stryker owners been on a long drive or two up and felt like "I wish I had spent the extra money on the Raider." Not any other bike. Because it will be one if these two. Or does it simply never occur to you as you are happy, in those situations, with what the Stryker gives you? And thanks again for all the replies.

The answer to the question in size is, two sizable people say 220+ lbs each, the Stryker would start to get cramped for long rides. But power and load handling is still there.

Again their are only the times I wanna play that would take. But 6'4 240 and wife on the bike with gear prolly around 400 to 450 5 hour trip to Florida no complaints on hauling that. Other than my wife who is pretty tall also and wants to be stretched out more and her booty hurts. Fixed one problem need to fix the seat. Insurance is another big deal that I didn't think of earlier a lot different pricing on that. Does it have enough yes it does. Would I like more when I wanna play sometimes but don't think it is worth it all. Now that I think of insurance and all love my stryker so.

I think hands down I figured out the Stryker is easily the best bang for anyone's buck. I never glanced at a Raider until a used one popped up for under 11k with only a few thousand miles on it. Then my mind got all screwed up. It's almost bike getting time. And I've been looking forward to the Stryker for months. Maybe I should have said that sooner too. I'm not talking about a 15k dollar Raider. I'm comparing a 9k dollar Stryker to an 11k dollar Raider with about 3k miles on each give or take.

You really outta test ride the 2 bikes if you are so undecided. I went and picked out my Stryker on 12/23/10. Went and picked it up the next day and they had a new 2009 Midnight Warrior on the floor that they didn't the day before. I had a hard time looking away from that Warrior. Glad I got the Stryker though because I like to be stretched out sitting in a cruiser. Would love to test ride a Warrior though!

Put that much in power mods in the Stryker and I don't think the Raider would be much faster if at all.

And just some background; I've been riding for 13 months and my first/current bike is a 97 Suzuki Bandit 600. Don't laugh. I got it to learn on and I paid 1600 for it in mint condition and only 4500 miles on it. Also because I didn't want to buy a first bike that would make me cry when I dropped it learning to ride. Luckily I never did drop this bike and can't wait for my Stryker. So regardless of which bike, it will be like going from a civic to a corvette. Also, I LOVE this forum. It's even good enough to be factor when choosing which bike as it decides which community I'd belong to. So I look forward to many noob questions for you guys here shortly.

I'm not sure how you feel about ebay and craigslist, but there are some nice strykers to be found w/ low miles + aftermarket extras. I bought mine thru ebay and couldnt be happier. Theres currently a nice blacked out blue one for $6800, w/ V&H pipes, spike intake, PCV and more w/ 850 miles.Maybe I should have said that sooner too. I'm not talking about a 15k dollar Raider. Also my financing limits me to dealerships and local private sellers. But that blue Stryker is amazing. Love the black pieces. Even if I get this copper one with crome it will soon have as much black as I can get onto it.
