The bike has 700 miles on it and every time I'm coasting to a stop I would downshift from 3rd to 2nd and try to lightly depress the shifter into neutral but when I do it too light it grinds a little, when I do it a tad harder it drops into first. From experience, do you have to break it in more or what? Also when at a stop and trying to get it from first to neutral it would go into second then it would go to neutral. Thanks.

Coming to a stop I'm always in 1st so cannot comment on the downshift to neutral. I'm either just stopping temporarily for a stop sign or coming up to traffic and if necessary want to be able to move quickly. Once all the cars are there and we are at the light I shift to neutral if possible to relax my clutch hand.
Finding neutral on this bike isn't hard but on occasion it can be temperamental like all bikes. No "neutral assist" or anything like that on this bike. If you skip neutral almost all the time you either you have a heavy foot/big boot/something else or there is something mechanically wrong with the bike. Call the dealership and ask them if they can take it for a test ride and look things over.
As always, hope it is minor so no riding time gets wasted.

Give it time.
2nd...............stay in gear when at a stop light so you can do a quick get away if something should happen and you need to move quickly! The clutch is not that hard to hold for a min. or so.

I liek Joe tend to stay in gear in case I need to get the **** out of the way of something but it doesn't sound normal to me that you are having these issues, one of the things I noticed right off the bat with this bike is how easy it was to pop into neutral, get it checked

Check your clutch lever play. Mine was too lose coming from the dealer and I could never find neutral. Adjusted closer to spec and neutral was much easier to find. Left it a little loser than spec because the friction zone became to0 small.

Like Joe said, keep it in gear when stopped at an intersection. I have a number of times had to move quickly cuz some idiot wasn't paying attention and almost rear ended me.To busy talking on a cell phone. Generally speaking the type of shifter used in motorcycle trannies prefer to be shifted down to 1st then to nuetral. Just the way their built. Modern tech and tighter tolerances have lessened this tendency but V Twins still exhibit it more than sportbikes. As mentioned above clutch adjustment can play a big part in this although if you really think it's an issue it can't hurt to have the dealers mechanic take t for a test ride.

I have to go through a security check point every day and have to go to neutral to get my ID out. Sometimes, especially when it's cold, I have a hard time getting into neutral...keep going first to second and second to first.

It may become a little easier to find neutral as you put more miles on it, but it should be at normal capabilities by 700 miles. If this is a problem at a strand still and at idle then take it in for an adjustment.
It should also become more easy to find neutral shifting from second gear at the right rolling seed or even shifting from first to neutral while rolling. You have to get used to what speeds and how much pressure to use.
However this is not a good practice because there is very few reason to need to be in neutral while at any speed. But it can be done and should be easy wants you get the feel of your bike.
But if you can't hit neutral fairly easy at a dead stop with the motor at an idle then you may need an adjustment.

From everything you described it sounds like you need to develop a “feel” for the shift on this bike. Downshift from 3rd to 2nd with a quicker/lighter touch, but not hard hit that drops you into neutral. Put some time in and get the feel. Also if you are getting a heavy “clunk” between 1st & neutral it may be because your oil level is a bit low, I had this issue during the break-in period.

Mine does it with the neutral to first. Consistent banging. Grinding and banging whenever i approach traffic lights. Dealer said nothing was wrong. I was on the phone with Yamaha engineers. Claimed it shouldn't do that. So I brought it back to dealer. They adjusted the clutch handle slack adjuster right in front of me. Claims to be within factory specs. Gave it another try But now my clutch handle grabs way far out. Still does it. 600 miles on it. At thoughts ?
