Hi guys,

No nagging here … just a business point. But am I the only one who thinks that the Colorite paints are WAY overpriced?!

http://www.colorrite.com

An Aerosol can is 34$

A can of primer is 17$

A can of clear is 17$

So a small project like painting a front fender and the chin scoop would require 2 cans of paint, 1-2 can of primer and 1 can of clear coat. For a total of 101.80$+ before shipping!...

Considering that a pro will do that job for 200$, I feel that a LOT of people will go pro instead of giving a chance to the Colorite products.

How come you can get all kind of Aerosol painting cans for around 10$ in most autopart shops …but Colorite charges 34$.

I really feel that they would attract a lot of people by just setting their price in the reasonable range.

Does their paint is that much better? Am I missing something?

Yea, I had local shop sand my original fuel tank down, remove those decals under Clearcoat, fill in the 2 dimples and seam near filler neck, paint orignal color and clear coat and only cost me 250.00. And he delivered tank for free.

I had my two fenders, tank and side covers painted for $400.00. It was done by the same guys that painted Tommy Graves green custom bike. Google Tommy Graves and you should see it.
Wow that is a good price! Did you make the sandblasting and priming yourself before?

The two fenders and tank were epoxy primed by them as well. The two side covers didn't have any blemishes or bare metal so we scuffed and painted over it. No need for primer. My paint is SEM hot rod black so it is a single stage paint with 3 coats. The only problem with hot rod black is if you get anything for debris in the paint you have to sand and start over. It can not be buffed out.

I would say the aerosol kit is more for touch ups or maybe 1 piece any more you're better off either taking it to a pro or buying a good quality gun and buying the pints or quarts. Been a while since I checked their site out. You might be able to get a compatible primer and clear coat cheaper local.

Anyone had problems getting the painters to match the stock paint? Want to get mine painted locally (i live on an island with lower exchange rate & high import duties so multiply your price by 3.5!) but wonder the best way to get the paint matched without having to buy the overpriced colorite stuff.

I was going to post this else where but this will do when i put my grips on i drip some glue on the tank. So today i wash and waxed the bike and noticed i had not gotten the glue off so i tried some goo gone and nothing. My dealer is just around the corner so i go over and ask for some advice they said to go to the local auto body supply shop and explain so i did they gave some 3M stuff to use on it so i tried it nothing tried it again seemed to start working tried again this time i scrubbed it a little to hard. So i end up taking the tank off and here we go to get it painted. I get their give them the code from color right and no good cause they will not tell you the mixing formula so they checked it out and Yamaha has been using the same colors since 2000 i believe i saw on the screen. so they use ppg paint and now i just hope it matches or at least pretty dam close.

Let me know if you think it will take too long Roger- I can always send you my extra tank that I used while mine was getting painted. UPS will only take 1 day from me to you.
