THEY ARE NOT RAIN PROOF!!!!!!!!!!! I just rode in the rain for the first time with my new Cruiselite Custom Soft Saddlebags (27D-F84H0-V0-00) and everything inside is wet now. It wasn't even that hard of a rain and I had them sealed properly. It ruined my registration paperwork (but guess I should have that under the seat and in a plastic bag anyway). Why in the **** would they not make them rain resistant?! They should say that in the product description on their website. I AM PISSED!

yeah, they could at least make a liner for em that seals, I've always packed my stuff in the big zip locks because I've never had any motorcyle luggage that is 100% waterproof. Also it makes it easier to keep clean stuff separate from the dirty stuff on long treks.

I have these bags as well, and although I love the look of them, they SUCK in any kind of weather. SO I zip lock baggie important stuff in there like Shane.

I told some of the reps at the Daytona Bike Week Yamaha pavilion about the problem. I let them know I was bad mouthing their product on the forum boards. His reply was we do not make them water proof. My reply I am not looking to use them as pontoon if I drive into a lake. I expcect my bags to keep the contents inside dry during rain. having to load things in additional bags is a pain. And they fail and the bag gets moldy smelling inside after water stays in them over and over. He said he would bring it up at a meeting. He confided the the reason for the back order on them was because they changed manufacturers. Maybe that is where the problem lies.

Anyway, I came up with my own solution. I cut 16" black bicycle innertubes down the center seem and removed the stem so that they resemble large black rubber bands. I then wrap the back with the innertube covering the zipper seam. It actually looks cool. Makes it a pain to get in and out of the bag quickly though. But may only use them when I know it is gonna rain

I have the hard street saddle bags on my Stryker. Are these the ones you are refering to? If so, I have had no rain problem with mine. And I have rode in several down pours this past summer.

Haven't had wet problems yet but Cali is in a drought. But I have washed the bike with the bags on with no problems. But I know soft bags leak so I'm careful not to spray water directly on them . But the problem I have is the yoke is tearing from the bag and the outside liner is separating by the zipper. El cheapo sewing job and material.:tsk: Thumbs down on Star bags. Plus the don't stay in place the way they are designed to . Probably why they tore.

Not the Hard Street, they are referring to the Star OEM semi-soft side saddlebags

Yeah the oem star soft bags are crap. Get tourmaster ... my tourmaster bags have survived over 20k miles of very rough usage and they were used to start with. We barely used the star bags and for the price we paid they are crap. I have to find another set of bags now for tobys bike.

Are these the bad bags

Yes those bags. very much NOT worth the money. We bought them thinking since they were supposed to be designed for the stryker, they would work better then other soft bags. Unfortunately we were wrong and it cost me just under 200$
we are considering taking them back to the dealership and seeing if he will exchange them for something different even tho it has been 5 months since we bought them with my bike...
I will never buy star branded accessories again... ever. They are substandard and I can spend less money and have the product last longer if I go elsewhere.

well even stuff in my tourmaster bags will get wet... so I just pack stuff in ziplocks on long trips... because you just can't control the weather ;) lol
fair weather or not, it is always a good idea to just get large ziplock bags and make sure anything you don't ever want to get wet is inside them hehe

I bought my bike from a Yamaha Motor Corp employee. He had every accessories for sale including these bags. I passed on these bags when we made a deal as I saw the zipper being a problem down the road and a weak point in the design. (Ever had a jacket ruined because the zipper got of track?) This item for cost reasons appears to have been farmed out a sub manufacturer. In my option there was more effort to make these bags stylish and not take away from the lines on the bike than functionality.

However I think the most of the accessories are over engineered. The original owner told me how many accessories and parts that never made it to catalog as the legal department canned them for liability reasons. Many of the parts took months and months of hurdles to pass legal's strict requirements. I agree these bags are substandard but while my OEM back rest is only rated for 200lbs I think it could handle 2.5x that weight. I look at the engine guard and luggage rack and windshield and I think all of those accessories are well designed and manufactured. But those bags should be pulled from the accessory product line as it gives Star accessories a bad rep.

The OEM backrest is really strong but the chrome scratches easily compared to Cobra or other Chromed parts. On the bags I'm also seeing bubbles in the side surface liner where the star is???
