I bought a drilled exhaust from one of our members with the 4 half inch holes. Is that the optimal amount of holes, or drilling additional holes make them louder or deeper in sound? I have heard that some have 6 and even 8 holes. I wouldn't want to drill more if there is no benefit.

I only did a half inch hole in the center. I started with two 1/2 in hole in each then did 4 then 6 then the center + 2more for a total of 9 in each. Each step increased the loudness and tone a little each time.

Just my luck, I can't find my Hole Saw Extension. Drives me crazy when I look where it is supposed to be and it isn't there. I've looked all over my garage. Guess I will go buy another one tomorrow, and my other will turn up.

yea that's the way it is around my shop all the time after buying new tools bcuz you cant find it someone always comes up and says O i used this just forgot to give it back . you know if you wanted to take it a step farther you could use a hacksaw blade to remove the baffle once you get the ends gut out but that takes a little bit of time cutting it by hand just have to saw it long ways on top and bottom they use pliers to pull the sleeve and fiberglass out they go buy a can of flat black high temp spray pant to pant the inside of the pipe to help keep it from rusting

Good lord Toby. Should have just removed the extra splinter that you had left so that you don't cut your hand on it.

No, I don't want to gut it, just drill out the inner baffle. I'll Get R Done tomorrow.
You might be happy just adding holes around the center. When I added the center hole it didn't make that much difference from the 8 holes in each. Of course I only did a 1/2 in hole in the center.

Okay. I picked up a new 1" Bi Metal Hole Saw and 12" Extension from Home Depot. Placed inside the 1" opening on each tail pipe until I felt it hit the Baffle Plate, it was a snug fit. A few minutes later they were drilled through. Just like the Exhaust Mod I did on my V Star 950. It added more volume and a deeper tone. For my liking, it is just enough without being too loud. It's enough to let the Cagers know you are near. I thought of buying the Cobra Slip On, but not anymore. I'm very pleased with the 4 half inch holes on the outer edge and the baffle plate drilled out. I recommend this mod for those who can't or do not want to drop big bucks on better sounding pipes. ;D

Good job Formerfuzz. I actually like the way drilled baffles sound. But don't like the way the stock mufflers look. And now that I dropped the rear 2 and a 1/4 inches the pipes drag before the the pegs hit. So when I can afford it I will swop them out for something that looks better and and gives more road clearance.

Thanks Toby. Believe it or not I like the look of the stock exhaust, so I should be good for a while. I do like the Chrome, but the Raven Exhaust does give it a unique look.

I like the blacked out exhaust. A fellow Raider owner shipped his wife's Raven exhaust up to us for the cost of shipping. We will put the chrome exhaust on the shelf.

I believe I will run the Raven Exhaust for a while. Maybe later I will Mod the Chrome set and put them on. That will give me options. It doesn't take but a few minutes to to swap them out.

I've been considering drilling out the center hole as well. I already drilled the 4 1/2 inch holes in each muffler plate and it definitely added some noise, but more of a loud flutter than the roar I'm looking for. My only concerns with doing the center hole is the baffle plate that is cut coming of inside the exhaust and any marring that will happen inside the pipe and eventually rusting. Anyone got any opinions on those issues?
