Anyone here done that before? I'm gonna be down in Wyoming next month and I was thinking about going to Banff Glacier Park in Alberta with my bike. Anyone from the US ever gone across the border and if so, what did they ask for besides canadian insurance?

I've done my homework already but I'd rather get someones take on it. Insurance, passport, registration, up to date inspection, and valid drivers license is what I expect to have to show. Reason I ask for someone's first person experience is because last time I rode into Mexico I had to pay a 400 dollar bond because I didn't get a travel permit beforehand.

What the heck are you talking about!!! This is the first time I hear about that! I went to Tijuana from San Diego half a dozen time ... never paid a penny. Where did you get in!?

Here's the deal bro....I've been to every state a bunch of times and all across Canada a Bunch too..Crossed many borders and it's not that big a deal as long as your honest and dont try to hide something. They will ask your purpose for the crossing, the destination & how long you'll be staying, If your bringing anything across with you that you care to declare. You will need your passport (drivers licence registration/insurance too of course) incase they ask to verify your ownership of the bike.

There's really nothing to it man... but these thing basically cover your ass if you get a PR!(K for USC agent.. give er man banff is beautiful..

Agreed, I go to the us often because I am an hour from the border.... Most things I ever showed was my passport. On the way back, I tell them what I spent, if it's under the allowed amount, it's usually quick and painless. Having your license, insurance/registration is a no brainer for anytime you ride

Banff is awesome

DO NOT drive a motorcycle or a car in Mexico without buying the Mexican insurance at the border. US insurance is valid only in the US, Canada and the US Territories. Mexico is NOT covered. Plus in Mexico, even if you have their insurance, you are expected to pay for any damages in an accident at the time of the accident, not once the insurance company takes care of it weeks later. I have a friend who spent several hours in jail until his wife could come up with $3,000 US dollars to pay for damages in an accident. Ask your insurance agent for a Canadian insurance ID card. Saves some headaches later on.

Cool, it sounds like it's alot easier/faster to go ride into Canada than into Mexico. Last time I rode into Mexico I went through all sort of hoops and loops. Apparently if you want to travel further into the country you have to get a travel permit for your vehicle but you don't need one if you are driving around near the border. Oh and they also asked for a notarized letter from my lienholder giving me permission to take the bike out of the country. What a PITA!

If you live in NY you can get an "enhanced" drivers license. It allows you to travel to Canada without a passport. They call it "enhanced" because it enhances the income for the state.

the border people can do whatever they want, whenever they want.... but I travel to the US often for fun/tournaments....

and my brother in law has a few DUIs in his past.... I personally do not think this is true. Drugs/terrorist stuff.... heck ya ;)

they just do not like being lied to, IMO
