Ok that’s it …

I am 41 years old and I am riding since I am 12. I learned on my trusty Kawa Kx125 and rode different custom and sports bikes up to this day. I can officially say that I never really came close of having an accident. My trick is to always drive while taking for assumption that people did not see me. That thing worked, it really does.

But now things have changed and I cannot deal with this anymore. I almost got killed twice this week … by idiots texting on their cell phone.

1. Last Saturday: I am stopped at a red light, waiting for it to switch green. I heard tire screeching behind me to realize in horror that a young 16 years old girls is breaking, 4 wheels locked, trying to avoid hitting me. She had to climb on the sidewalk, nearly hitting a woman. Long story short, a young man stopped and told me she just passed him, swiveling while texting. I’ll save you the circus resulting from this affirmation.

2. This morning …another waiting at a red light. The light turns green and I slowly engage, not being in a rush. In a split second I brake as hard as I can, because an old dude in a huge SUV just ignored the red light … crossing the intersection at like 45 mph …while talking on his cell phone. I missed me by less than 6 inches...

I swear to god if I ever get hit by one of those idiots, I don’t answer of my actions.

I officially think that people talking or texting on their cell phones are more dangerous than drunk drivers. I really do. When will the police will do something about this? … and I am talking about serious stuff. Not a lousy ticket… They should confiscate the phone on the spot and revoke your permit for like 3 months.

I felt safe on the road for so long, but I do not anymore. Am I the only one thinking the same? Or I am just getting old?

Have had some close calls too. It's the idiots who feel they are so important that they cant wait to read or answer their **** phones. :tsk:

I hear ya Frag ...
Because of the number of times I've seen this, I do not assume anything and always am ready at the throttle when at a red light. I make sure the person coming up behind me is watching and slowing down. If they appear not to, I'm ready to move to either side.

I also don't automatically go on a green light if I'm the first on the line. I will wait a few seconds looking both ways to ensure that the lead cars are stopped or stopping

This would not be practical. Passengers should be able to text. I am sure a lot of work gets done by people with long subway or bus rides. It does seem people are so dependent on their phones. How did society survive before? LOl

As soon as I stop at a red light my immediate focus is in my mirrors to see if the person behind me is going to stop (in my Jeep or on my bike). Once it turns green I always wait a second or two if there's cross traffic to see if they are at least slowing before pulling out.

Rule #1 of road safety...assume everyone around you is about to do something incredibly stupid at any second.
