I did a really dumb thing as 3 of us were out for a ride without wives and we stopped to get a bite to eat last nite. We pulled up in front of restaurant and I shut my bike off and pulled out key and just stood up and forgot to put kickstand down. Bike immediately started falling to the left side and since I was straddling bike I slowed it down some while I finally got my senses about me and dropped the key and got a hold of handlebars. to stop it. It did swing up the left floorboard and come to a rest there, but was laying way over. Had to step completely to the left of bike to pull it back up. Called myself a few names and then laughed about it. Didnt put a scratch anywhere. Very lucky I guess but DumbAss!!. Anyone else ever do this before or willing to admit it? Hehehe

I did it once. Pulled up to work one morning, shut it off, and just as I was about to step off the bike it began to lay over. I remember thinking wtf is going on as I was trying to catch it. The way the pegs are attached, it almost catches itself. I did the same as you, cursed myself a few times and shook it off lol.

I had a similar episode couple of months ago there was a old post about acouple of us that has done this already and realized the bike will catch itself from going all the way over with the peg mounts if you lay it down slowly

LOL...yeah I pulled that a long time ago..pulled up and some women were hangin around...so trying to be cool..jumped up and bam...ah crap happens...ever since I've taken on the habit of never turning my bike off with the switch, I throw the kickstand down to kill it and in doing so never forget....just count yourself lucky, not too big of a ego blow. Could have been worse.

Thanks Guys, I feel better already! It was not well lit where we parked, so just my future son-in-law and good friend got to witness it. We used cellphones for lite to find key. It had rolled under car next to me. I just thank my lucky stars we were not parked near other bikes and set off a domino chain or scratch someones car. I like Gators deal with using the kickstand to shut bike off when parking! Now I just gotta remember to do that!

I did a much more dumb ass thing than that. But before I tell you let me say, don't think I ever forgot to put my kick stand down or not sure if I just don't remember but I guess it's common. What I can remember doing though was just the opposite. I didn't put the kick stand up before taking of from the curb on the old Virago. The kick stand hit the ground and I almost lost control. This can't happen on newer bikes with safety switches on the kick stand. I have got into the habit of the 2nd thing to do after coming to a stop is putting the kick stand down. The first thing I do is put it into neutral after I have come to a stop and have full control and balance of the bike. And If I am on any kind of slop I put the stand down 1st cause that kills the engine and I leave it In gear to park. In any case I set the bike on the stand then hit the kill switch then tern the bars to the possession to lock the forks. then I get of the bike take my gloves of then tern the key off and to the locked possession. then I put the key in my pocket. Now here is why I take my gloves of before I touch the key. Because if you don't take your gloves off you can't put the key in your pocket and tend to set it down then take your gloves off, helmet, goggles exe, then grab everything and run into the store cause you gota pee then realize the only not in your hand or your pocket is your f!!!n key. And where is it? right where you set it on your bike. Might as well been in the ignition with a neon sign above it saying DUMB ASS LEFT HIS KEY.

I'll go one better, I pulled off without cinching my brain bucket, hit about 60 and the wind blew it right off, talk about embarrassing, my buddies had a good laugh at my expense
Well thank God you didn't reach four your brain bucket and loose control of your bike and wreck. That would have taken some of the humor out of it. lol.

LOL! confession is good for the soul. 1st gas stop, pulled in to pump, shut 'er down, tried to throw right leg up and over the sissy bar (tall one), pant leg caught just as I realized WTF! I forgot to put kick stand down! Everybody is right she settled nicely onto the foot peg, no harm no foul, except to my ego. I now too stop the engine with the kickstand safety, hopefully to save this little embarrassment.
One way or another we have all "been there, done that".

I ALMOST did that in my driveway. Was parking the bike and stepping off slowly and was like WTF.... I looked down and saw my mistake . Fortunately, it wasn't leaned too far for me to pull it back upright. Good to know the pegs would've hit first.

I did it on my Raider a while back...the engine guard caught it......when it went down I hit the kill switch got off the bike and started yelling "who the **** did that!!" a couple people that didn't see ME do it came over to help pick it up....one of them even asked why would someone do that.
Now that's quick thinken. When I was painting a house my buddy knocked his bucket of paint over on the carpet and right then a poodle walk in. He slapped the poodle with his brush and yelled," hay lady look what your dog just did".

Happened to me when I was installing my kuryakn wings. Got on and off several times to adjust the angle... the last time I did it I put the kickstand up for some dumbass reason, got a feel for the pegs, stood up and, set it down on.. nothing. Almost took out my other two in the garage.

Luckily, I managed to pull it back up without technically touching the ground. Sure felt like it was all the way over, though. You know, that's hard to do straddling the dang thing. :p

All of my dumbass moments have been on sport bikes (go figure).
The first time I ever put the bike down I was going to a drag track in Washington. I pulled up to the registration booth with my girlfriend on the back. I reached toward the window to give the lady my card and I guess that shift in weight with the extra person on the back was enough to make me, my girlfriend, and the bike fall in to the wall at the registration booth. For some reason the lady still let me register to race after seeing that happen!
I used to live in an apartment building that was at the bottom of a hill, when I would come home from riding I would turn the bike off and coast down the hill. Once I got slow enough and close enough I would throw the stand down and when the bike stopped moving it would just sit over. One day I came in a little to fast and the kickstand hit the ground and flipped it up and the bike went over with me on it. Luckily there was only one person that saw it.
