You wanna know what’s awesome??? Doing simple routine maintenance on the bike…but having to sweat your a$$ off in the Texas heat doing it the hard way because you couldn't find that special tool you bought last time to make the job a 1000x easier…then finding said special tool only after you've past the point of no return and can no longer use it...then having said special tool laying on the ground next to you laughing while you continue struggling to complete the task...then looking over to see a pterodactyl sized mosquito balls deep in your arm.

I have multiple copies of some tools. I let my shop and garage go so finding things is sadly way too large a portion of a given project. The process goes something like this:

1) Look for tool in the place it is supposed to be. You know, where you got it from way back originally...
2) If not there, look for a place that you might have lazily placed it.
3) If not there see if the neighbor is home so you can borrow said tool.
4) If not home (or cannot find his; he is afflicted with the same tool disorder as me) run a quick cost-benefit analysis.
5a) If the tool is costly or requires an internet order etc. redouble your efforts to find it cursing louder and louder as time passes.
5b) If the tool is reasonably priced, run out to the store and purchase another one.

6) If you repurchase the tool then invariably you'll run across it within a few days. Most likely when putting away the tools from the project!!

Yup, I'm with you there. Got 5+ toolboxes in the garage and the usual place to find the tool I want is usually on the floor near where I was working or somewhere on one of the 4 workbenches (under something else). If not then check in with the neighbor! Still looking for that 10mm deep socket from a year ago. Probably in the bottom of the sled I sold this spring!
