Hi y'all,
This is my first post but i have been lurking around the site since i received my stryker
on april 9th. This place is great and a lot of you have done amazing things to your bikes!

Quick question, i have had a set of radiator hoses molded out of pyrex (similar to the brent hodge mod)
I will have to drain the engine coolant to do the install
at the same time, i will change the fluid to dexcool cause it will match my bike more (My stryker is reddish copper)
Has anyone done a flush on there bike yet? is it a big ordeal?
will i really have to take off the mufflers?
thank you in advance for any info you guys have.

16000 miles. I just hit that and my coolant is fine. I live in SoCal so it doesn't get too hot or cold so I'm gonna leave mine be.
Yea, debating on mine. If I can group a few things together where I have to lift/remove the tank then I'll probably do it as I have leftover coolant from some car work. If not than a visual inspection would be fine for me.

Yamaha's service intervals are pretty conservative IMO for a lot of stuff. Some things like plugs I have no issue doubling but since inexpensive will probably replace at 16K since the labor is the same to pull & check vs. pull and replace.

The coolant I'm using is Honda Type2 and on the vehicle is good for 75K originally and like 50K after changing(assumes you don't get it all out). Those numbers could even be longer as I'm going from memory and the memory is going as well :(
Regardless I'd guess our bikes could easily double the coolant to 32K and I believe the flush would be near complete so probably that interval again or even longer both times.
You can always take some out and have it tested but probably close to the price to do the job if you are doing it yourself. My fluid was like $22/premixed gallon online and only slightly more at the dealership...

And just to CMA, follow the owners manual if in doubt and have a qualified mechanic do things if you are not sure you can do them yourself.
If you don't get to ride a lot, 16K could easily take 4-5 years to happen so costs would be fairly low even if paying someone to do it. Now if you ride a lot, obviously costs go up and learning to do some things yourself becomes more and more worth it :)

Ride Safe and Think Spring!!!
