Now that warmer weather is here I started wearing my half helmet. I can hear a half rattle half whistle noise at certain r.p.m.s from the engine. Is this something anyone else has noticed or just mine?

if it is the same noise i have heard on mine, it seems to be coming from above the engine, and it sounds like something is rattling, like maybe one of the plastic parts or something, but the more i ride mine, the less often i hear it. agree about the certain rpms, still havent figured out what it is and i was quite alarmed the first couple of times i heard it, because it almost sounded like a piston slapping or something. i ride without my helmet and have leaned down there to try and hear it a few times and have decided it is plastic rattling only when the engine vibrates at a certain rpm usually on hard acceleration in higher gear......anyone figures it out please let us know

I'm thinking it is the plastic spark plug covers at just the right frequency.

I normally wear a full face helmet, but on a few occasions I took a short ride without. I could really hear a lot of noise also. I just had the 600 mile service done and it helped a little. I had some of the same thing with my old vstar, so I am going with the "nature of the beast" theory myself. I guess that is what loud pipes are for ;) Can't wait until there is a better selection to choose form.

I heard a rattle that I thought was part of the valve train. It was definitely coming from the left side, however. I put my ear down toward the engine while riding (slow enough so the wind noise wouldn't drown it out) and finally figured it out. Something had come loose in the left mirror. New one is on order from the dealer. Under warranty.
