Hey guys, quick question....are new exhaust gaskets needed when upgrading to a new exhaust system? Reason I ask is because my bike only has about 300 miles on it and my buddy that's helping me out says we should be good. No new gaskets needed. I cant remember where on the forum I saw this but I remember someone telling me that its best to buy new ones regardless when putting on new exhaust.

Yes anytime you take the system loose you should replace the gaskets to insure no leaks. You don't need OE gaskets though. Just use Felpro #23588........$1.99 at OReilly's and they work great!

I've used both and have had no issues with either. I do recommend re-torquing the nuts after a couple hundred miles. If you have a hard time getting to the nuts on the front pipe, try removing the two lower radiator bolts and gently swing it forward, all kinds of room. Read that in another post.

I originally thought the Felpro was the way to go also. Until- I noticed that everytime I checked the torque they kept taking up and taking up. Finally after 6 times and a few hundred miles I thought Finally- They are tight. So when I changed my pipes this last time, I noticed that the acorn nuts were bottomed on studs and felpro gasket was pinched to merely nothing. (14 ft. lbs everytime). So last time I went with OEM and they took up only a little on first retorque and I have checked twice since then and No more torque needed.
