I was looking at exhausts on line, and the website I was looking at said the Cobra exhausts are 49 state legal, no shipments to California. Does anyone know what isn't legal about them? As far as I know, no smog check on motorcycles.

It's because the Stryker comes with a catalytic converter. It's illegal here to remove it for any reason without replacing it. Cobra exhausts eliminate the converter and are therefore illegal.
Are there any legal exhausts for California? What are you running?

according to NY state laws your supposedly not allowed to have any exhaust other than stock but nobody up here gets stopped for aftermarket pipes unless they are OBNOXIOUSLY loud or you doing something stupid near a cop.

nope. Running stock for now. Honestly I'd just go with what Yosemite said. It's illegal but the worst case scenario is you'd get a fix it ticket and a noise violation.

Which vendor won't sell cobra exhaust to us in CA?

I honestly didn't know that. I didn't even know bikes had cats.. and never heard of needing a smog. I knew about the decibel thing.. but that's it.

I am sure there are companies that will, just thought it was odd that it said that. I will still be getting something.

Go with the exhaust first. I have both but found the exhaust is the bigger bang for the buck.
MN Stryker, are you saying to get exhaust before programmer? I thought programmer would be best first. New to this, so any help is appreciated.

Kind of one of those things where you'll get all sorts of answers. It doesn't really matter where you start. As long as you don't have both intake and exhaust without an EFI programmer.

Be sure to post up some pics once you get them installed. Which brand are you looking at now?
