Hey all
Got about 450 on the bike and am starting to look into the first service. My dealer wants 198 but if I can't get him down to 100....ill do myself. Ill be doing all maintenace myself after this til 16k anyways. Btw I have 5 yr warranty cuz this is my first bike and it felt like something I should get....piece of mind really.
So if I do myself....just follow checklist from owners manual? Seems pretty easy xcept belt check.
How do u guys lift bike if no motorcycle jack?
Also....what type oil and filter? Brand and weight and filter # if u could please. Can i just get at auto parts store or do i need to use yamaha fluids etc....warrantywise? Do I need small filter wrench or will small car one work?
Thnx....I know these are very basic questions but as stated....this is my first bike.

If you intend on doing your own service I’d HIGHLY recommend you invest in a quality motorcycle jack/lift. Harbor Freight has some nice ones and it won't take long for it to pay for itself if you’re doing your own wrenching. The services are easy and you’ll want to follow the service manual not the owner’s manual. Any quality JASO certified oil is fine and it won't void any warranties if you don't use Yamalube. I have 16,000 miles on mine and I run conventional Valvoline 10W40 motorcycle oil and it works great. I highly recommend running the OE Yamaha oil filter and changing it every oil change. Quality oil filters are bout $10-12 which is what the OE one is and you know the relief valve pressure settings are correct with the OE filter but not so much with aftermarket. Just keep your receipts that way you have documentation of changing the oil if there’s even a warranty issue. I’d also recommend replacing the crush washer on the oil drain bolt during oil changes. I took a filter up to Autozone to figure out what size oil filter wrench i needed.

It appears that yours was an isolated incident as you're the only person to have an issue. I've downloaded it multiple times.

A .pdf file isn't executable... and cant carry viruses. However... if more than 1 file downloaded at once... that could cause that problem. If that site was targeted by a injectiin attack... thats entirely possible... and something most web server admins will catch quickly enough that it wouldnt happen to anyone going to download a few days later.

My question... my dealer told me that under the warranty terms, the first year of service had to be completed by a dedealer/certified yamaha service center.

They also said they entirely replace all fluids because they ship from factory with special weight swalant fluids to conditiin your drive system during the first 600 miles.

Many files that are not "executable" can have viruses imbedded in them, .pdf files included; .jpg's are another great source of the unexpected.

I guess you could read the actual terms of the warranty to make sure.

Because you have the warranty I would let the dealer do the initial service IMO. You paid for the warranty might as well not give them any reason to deny a claim later. Assuming they are competent they will overlook everything to make everything is still in spec.

Granted... but when deployed in that fashion, there are so many things that have to be just right, that's it's only likely to be tripped by someone who actually knows how to trip it locally or remotely via the local client. I didn't want to go at it at a low level... but

Basically just want to point out the high likelihood that the .pdf wasn't the source, and if anyone else runs into this, they'd at least be on the lookout for any unrecognized files showing up in their downloads.
