I've had different versions of this seat project in my head for months now and have finally gotten around to working on it. I was planning on posting up when it was done, but it's probably far enough now for a progress pic. I'm using the L&M pan and covered it with some ergonomic type floor matting so far. It seems like high density memory foam or similar. I ran two bacon strips of material about three inches apart (front to back) underneath two layers of the foam. It never occurred to me to take pics of that phase, sorry. The idea was to leave a flexible type pocket or opening in the middle, like some of the bicycle seats I've seen. I may add another softer layer, but you can get an idea of what I'm using so far. In the side pic you can also see a leather wing piece in the rear lower corner. I'm going to try to cut it so the leather cover reaches back to the strut. I'm hoping to avoid the gap I've noticed in some other pics of this pan on the stock fender. We'll see how that goes.

I'm hoping to fit it on the bike this weekend, cut the excess and lace it together. I have to stain it and all that, so the whole thing is still going to take a while.

Thanks guys. I'll post a few more pics as it gets closer to being done. I forgot to mention that it's a reproduction of the speedo plate that Nyjol did for me. Thought it looked cool on the speedo and wanted to tie the seat in also.

Finished up the new seat this morning and thought I'd put some pics up. Turned out nice, although i'm wondering if I'll have to restitch it after the the leather softens up and stretches. We'll see.

That looks Excellent!!

What weight of leather did you use?
How did you attach it underneath the seat?

Between this thread and another on the Raider forum, I'm really going to give this a shot.

Sorry about that, didn't think to show the underside. I basically cut the leather so that I had a wide ribbon type piece all around the edges for stitching. Hopefully the pic shows what I'm talking about. I anchored the leather with leather glue called Barge. It wasn't drying super fast so I put the screws in to hold it while it dried. I later found out that none of the screws were touching the bike anywhere, so I plan to just leave them in.

From there I put the pan with the bottom piece attached on the bike and marked where I'd need to cut the bottom piece in order to reach back to the strut trim (didn't want a gap from the seat to the trim). With that figured out, i cut the bottom leaving 1/2 inch sticking out from the pan all the way around including the extra to the strut. From there, I held the top on, flipped the whole thing upside down and traced around the bottom piece to tell me where I needed to cut the top piece. After cutting the top in the same basic shape, I punched holes all the way around both and did a simple whip stitch.

I didn't take process picks, but you probably get the idea. If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll explain as best I can.
